Nippy Legs

The age old dilemma.

I have lots of lovely summer dresses which I want to wear. In winter I wear dresses with opaque a/leggings/boots.

It's a bit nippy though. It's too cold to go out bare legged at the moment but opaque a don't work with my summer dress collection.

The obvious answer is nude fine denier tights but I've never really got on with them. They aren't as comfy or as practical as winter opaques. Always ladder and always get gusset issues. Opaques last ages but nudes last one wear before getting snagged and bobbled.

But dresses suit me better than wearing nice trousers and a nice top and it's boring to wear jeans all the time.

What do you do?

As you know I have no style at all...but I would wear them with bare legs and boots days like today, then with 3/4 length leggings maybe in a non-black colour (I like navy or grey) and just with bare legs on holiday. I loath nude tights for all of the reasons you mention!!

Stockings. I don't like tights.

PersisFord Sat 21-May-16 15:42:12

Stockings are all v well, and I used to wear them a lot, but now I have kids and have to lean over/sit on the floor/wear a sling there is a real risk of stocking top flashing. Which IMO just looks awful, I'd rather flash my knickers!

I've tried sticking but still feels drafty! I've tried holds up. They always roll down or fall down or pinch. I've tried suspender belt but who has time to faff with those?
I do t really like the look of nude denier either. It's either too shiny it too dull.
I do have cropped leggings in navy and black. I forget about them!

Apparently the fashion forward answer is fishnets. So I heard. Never owned a pair, ever grin

Personally, I just live in trousers.

candykane25 Sat 21-May-16 15:59:15

Hmm decent nude fishnets might be worth a try.
What about with sandals though?

PersisFord Sat 21-May-16 16:22:53

I used to wear fishnets a lot in my youth and they are not v comfy around the toes. They are v flattering though.

candykane25 Sat 21-May-16 16:24:09

I need a decent make to try.

candykane25 Sat 21-May-16 16:24:56

Not Wolfords. I'm not rich.

AliciaMayEmory Sat 21-May-16 16:28:02

I used to wear fishnets and to stop them feeling strange round the toes I wore nude tights underneath them! The things I did in the name of fashion! Now I just wear jeans as I'm always cold.

PersisFord Sat 21-May-16 16:35:07

grin alicia I was just thinking as I typed it that you could wear socks underneath!!

candy I bet M&s sell them. Or wolfords often in TKMaxx

candykane25 Sat 21-May-16 17:51:55

I remember being in a house of Fraser and ugly picking up a pair of Wolfords and they must of been made of gold and platinum or something because they were ninety odd quid.

SellFridges Sat 21-May-16 17:54:34

I'm not going to pretend to be fashion forward, but I am reasonably well versed. Nude fishnets are not fashion forward. In fact I've only ever seen them suggested on here!

candykane25 Sat 21-May-16 17:57:01

*idly not ugly. My phone has its own Freudian ideas about tights it would seem.

candykane25 Sat 21-May-16 17:57:41

Argh!!! Must HAVE been

wombattoo Sat 21-May-16 18:17:31

I have to say that Wolford are very good quality. I have the same dilemma candy It's probably why I don't wear skirts or dresses very often.
Is it still possible to buy suspender belts? I have seen them for years grin

wombattoo Sat 21-May-16 18:17:55

*have not seen them

hugoagogo Sat 21-May-16 18:25:19

Trinny and pinny always recommended nude fishnets 10 years ago

I just wear trousers all year round.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams Sat 21-May-16 18:26:46

Could you try wearing a cardi and/or a vest under your dress? I find if my top half is warm enough then I'm fine. Having warm feet can help too, so could you wear the type of shoes you could wear trainer socks with?

(I am one of those people who will wear shorts and a sweater/fleece from April/May though!)

candykane25 Sat 21-May-16 18:36:37

Polka I always wear a vest grin
Feel naked without one.

I'm out tonight and I'm going to wear a dress with payed probably as its really gloomy out. Or leggings.

I've started having late evening hit flushes as well so will probably end up sweltering.

KitKatCustard Sat 21-May-16 18:40:39

I always go for leggings, I'm afraid. I have some pale grey ones that look a bit less wintry than black.
Or longer skirts so not much bare leg flesh is showing.

candykane25 Sat 21-May-16 18:46:00

I would live to wear more maxis. I am five foot 2 and size 14. I need maxis to be plain so I don't look like a pair of curtains. But even petite maxis seem to be too long and need turning up.

KitKatCustard Sat 21-May-16 18:52:39

How about those jersey maxi skirts that you could turn the waistband over to get the length right?
(I have no idea what I am talking about as at 5'8" most skirts are too sort!)

KitKatCustard Sat 21-May-16 18:52:57

Sort? SHORT!
