...that posh middle aged women wear? Where do they get them? And if they get them somewhere really expensive, where can I get cheaper ones? Doesn't have to be 100% linen- it's the look I want.

My mum rocks that look (and I have so say, at 40, I'm beginning to veer that way too). There are plenty of vair expensive places (like Eileen Fisher) that do that look. But today, for example, I'm wearing a pair of wide leg linen trousers from M&S and a drapey, loose kind of knit top from Primark... Wide leg linen trousers, in particular, are easy to get relatively cheaply at this time of year.

Check out EAST for the general ideas, they often have sales but I think they're very expensive. Wide legged linen as pp said can be picked up anywhere. Strangely I found the best linen trousers at M&Co which was a bit of a shock. They do lots of tunic things too.

It's a nice look but is creasing not an issue?

Try Etsy too. Search lagenlook linen and there are loads of things to choose from.

I'd love to pull off the look but still at the crawling around on the floor phase, so don't think it would be that practical.

I have a board on pinterest that I've been posting images on to create a clothes mood board of things I'd love to have - pinterest is a good source of looks that you can then seek out the clothes for.

Its the creasing that puts me off anything linen. I think mine are a blend so quite crease-free.

I can't pull off the whole look at all as I'm too 'classic' and I can't stand drapey things on me but it's a look I like on others.

White Company

For cheaper:
Uniqlo eg Ines de la Fressange range
M&S e.g. Autograph
H&M can surprise you though not seen anything yet this year.

Used to love it but doesn't suit me any more.

And Pure Collection. Just had a catalogue through the door and they seem to have quite a bit of drapey linen stuff.
Normally good quality and looks like they're doing 25%- 40% off with UKCC0601

Try Poetry

Quite a lot of their range is linen, the rest is hemp or cotton, and the heavier weaves drape really well.

I nearly posted exactly same thing last week - it's that sort of Judi Dench look, classic, understated. I'd love to emulate but don't seem to have an eye for a capsule wardrobe and always end up looking a bit of a mess. Also have trouble keeping pale clothes clean for more than 5 minutes.

amarmai Mon 16-May-16 13:15:46

sara pacini does this look without going overboard but can be $$. Also Kaliyana does it BIG.

HouseOfBiscuits Mon 16-May-16 13:36:30

John Lewis and House of Fraser.

PersonalSpace Mon 16-May-16 14:23:40

Try The White Company, Jigsaw and & Other Stories.

thatorchidmoment Mon 16-May-16 17:39:33

White company has gorgeous drapery linen pieces, and some are knitted so don't crease, but have that lovely hang and drape. Mint velvet as well has that 'look' and pretty good selection of stuff on sale still. Toast has gorgeous linen stuff if you have the budget too.

Gruach Mon 16-May-16 17:50:02

What gives?

I'm not sure I'm fooled Bert. If you wanted to dress like that you would know exactly where to shop.

Are you wardrobing a theatrical production? Or gracing a fancy dress party?

thatorchidmoment Mon 16-May-16 18:03:00

hmm confused

I don't see your problem?! OP asked a perfectly reasonable question.

BertrandRussell Mon 16-May-16 18:05:17

I'm hoping that Gruach thinks I'm too young and trendy to wear such things. Sadly, I suspect there is a sting in the tail, but I can't quite work out what it is.

Cherrypie32 Mon 16-May-16 18:07:30

TKMaxx had a lot of this type of linen in today.

Gruach Mon 16-May-16 18:09:14

No sting! Just curious.

Honest ...

Gudrun Sjoden
Another mail order company whose name I can't remember-begins with 'W' and it's driving me mad!

BertrandRussell Mon 16-May-16 18:14:03

So what on earth have I ever said that makes you think I know where to buy reasonably priced linen clothes? Do all feminists wear that sort of thing? Or do all other middle aged, middle class women get a secret message on their 45th birthday? If so I didn't get mine.......sad

P1nkP0ppy Mon 16-May-16 18:19:13

Hampstead Bazaar in Bath (Julie Dench shops there), beautiful clothes but £££ 😕

Is it Wall? I've never bought but they're always sending me catalogues.

WindPowerRanger Mon 16-May-16 18:43:14

Yes, Wall! Thank you, I can stop twitching now.
