Baukjen leather leggins - you would you style them? And when on earth would I actually wear them??

These ones - in bitter chocolate.

Birthday present from DH.

Now, I have only just got my fashion mojo back in the last year or so after 10+ years in a TTC/pregnancy/BFing fug - I've lost weight (now a size 10-12) and have done some shopping grin

I am 50, working mother of 4, dress code at work is smart/casual, and these would be inappropriate tbh. We live in the sticks, not some glamourous part of the country.

So, heels and floaty shirt for going out?? Never really go out
Chunky chelsea boots and oversized jumper? But summer is about to come

Gawn, give me some ideas thanks

I like to dress mine down with slouchy t shirts and casual shoes. I think they look nice with bare ankles and tennis-style
shoes (Superga for example). Oversized jumpers etc in cooler times.

You may do this already but when I'm stuck for ways to style an outfit, I search for e.g. Leather leggings on Pinterest and see what's there that I like.

cooler as in temperature, obv.

I'm not brilliant with colours so I don't know what would go with bitter chocolate. Marl greys perhaps?

absolutelynotfabulous Sat 14-May-16 09:23:04

envy. I thought they were £34.99 at first glancegrin

Well done on your weight loss too. envy

PacificDogwod Sat 14-May-16 09:26:27

I had them on with a big white 'man's' shirt this morning and that looked nice. I think grin

Grey marl is a good idea, thanks.

£34.99 would have been nice, but no shock
I will need to wear them for 30 years to get good value for money out of them - do you think they'll look good on an 80 year old? grin

In my head I am a bit of a French style elegantly ageing rock chick, in reality I am a middle-aged, professional mother of 4 in the provinces grin

everythingsgoingsouth Sat 14-May-16 09:39:34

pale pink or all these nude/ blush tones that are around at the mo would look lovely with the chocolate.

absolutelynotfabulous Sat 14-May-16 09:50:34

Remember 80 is the new 40, Pacificgrin.

PacificDogwod Sat 14-May-16 09:57:29

Fuck that grin

I am so unapologetic for my increased wisdom, decreased patience with fuckwittery and am positively looking forward to being an old crone who can say whatever she jolly well pleases.

I am less worried about the 'mutton dressed as lamb' 'problem' (I don't get that, and I know they fit), but more 'how do I get the most use out of them'.

They are beautiful. I have no idea how they make leather stretchy confused

The comments on the website talk about sizing down, but the 12 fits me just fine and the 10 made me look like an overstuffed sausage - NOT the look I was after whether I'd be 20 or 50 grin

plimsolls Sat 14-May-16 09:59:44

Ooh yes, I bet they look really "oh I'm just a naturally sexy casual person" with a big white shirt. Good thinking. Mine are black and don't quite work with white shirts, unfortunately.

herecomesthsun Sat 14-May-16 13:38:30

inspiration- with a blazer and heels?

CaroleService Sat 14-May-16 13:47:22

If they were black it would be much easier I think ...

herecomesthsun Sat 14-May-16 13:57:07

It depends on what suits you though. I love the sophisticated muted tones of brown palette look but wouldn't suit it, colourwise I 'd be better with the big white shirt.

dragonsarebest Sat 14-May-16 14:37:11

Yes I have some in black but don't get enough wear out of them tbh - when I do it's with a long/oversized shirt, I have a nice khaki shirt dress that I wear over them, bottom few buttons undone so it looks more shirt than dress iykwim. Or a long jumper in winter but I'm not convinced about that look on me, I prefer the lightness of a wafty-ish oversized shirt with the harder-looking leather, it's a nice contrast I think.

Pisssssedofff Sat 14-May-16 19:01:10

I'm so jealous I can hardly type

NattyGolfJerkin Sat 14-May-16 19:07:12

Oh they are really nice, pacific. I'd wear them in exactly the way you described, quite a feminine fabric blouse/shirt in a simple shape and heels. Classic & sleek.

I might wear them in the daytime in A/W with a lovely oversized knit (maybe a cashmere or a more boxy, chunky shape wool number).

Basically, I think the key is keep the top quite unstructured to avoid the full rock chick and/or 'on the game' look.

PacificDogwod Sat 14-May-16 23:48:36

Well, they survived their first night out grin

Monthly 'date night' <puke> with DH.
V lovely Italian restaurant - quite traditional. old fashioned, lovely food. Not pizza/pasta - I had monkfish and asparagus. Yum.

Wore silk camisole in powder pink with matching cardi and wedge heels.
Felt v comfortable, stylish, but not all 'look at me' obvious.

I think I prefer the brown to black for casual chic, although admittedly not very rock chick grin

I bid you good night xx.

PacificDogwod Sat 14-May-16 23:49:32

Pisssssssssed, I can only apologise, sorry blush

amarmai Sun 15-May-16 11:23:50

does anyone know if they can be washed?

Floisme Sun 15-May-16 11:48:08

I'm afraid I have no advice except that your husband sounds awesome. Happy birthday!

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties Sun 15-May-16 11:57:07

Love them and they have the added bonus of being wipe cleanable in the event of spillage, so perfect around children or drunk adults.

Would look great with a silky cream coloured top.

PacificDogwod Sun 15-May-16 14:48:10

The website says 'specialist leather dry clean only' - I am fully planning on only wiping it with a damp cloth from time to time.

So DH suggesting I should go commando was NEVER going to happen grin

I have a floaty cream top that I will wear next times with them, I think.

I think I need to wear them like I would smart denim - you know, not to dig the garden exactly, but to see friends/out at the pub etc etc.

DH? Floisme, yes, he has his good points and is generous and thoughtful with presents, but there is more to it - we've had a rough year as a couple. Onwards and upwards though.

Floisme Sun 15-May-16 14:57:51

Ah sorry, op - that was insensitive of me. Best of luck. flowers

NicknameUsed Sun 15-May-16 14:59:43

Were they a surprise present?

PacificDogwod Sun 15-May-16 15:03:48

Yes, total surprise.
I love them but had to adjust to him seeing me as somebody who can wear something like that grin

Flo, no worries at all. Crisis has passed, work was done, and here we are. Who knows what the future holds - but I think that is true for anybody and any couple.
