Plus size summer holiday clothes

I want to look more stylish this summer and ditch my usual plain practical mumsy look. I hate my knees and have a big bum and boobs so I really struggle to find something comfortable that also looks good so usually end up in cropped trousers and vest tops. In fact I struggle to know what I should be wearing such as what sort of dress to wear on the evening on holiday

Any ideas?

I am a big fan of knee length and maxi dresses in the summer. Also, wide leg linen trousers can be really nice with a fitted shirt or t shirt.

How plus size? Finding clothes in an 18 is a different matter to tracking them down in a 24, for example.

Hi there! If you can get some long black shorts (even if they sit JUST on your knee, you can't really see your knees (!) what I did was went to Simply Be Oxford St (or if you not in London, they do good on-line service) and bought a couple of nice long tops/tunics. Then I bought some dangly earrings to tone with said tops so that all attention (any attention!) is focused ooop north and not south of knees!!!!! I also did the same with black cropped leggings (altho some folk deride the wearing of black leggings - another thread!) and wore a bit more colour up top. I have found that on hol when you get talking to folk they only tend to look at yr top half, espec if there is a bit of sparkle there (earrings/necklace etc) so plain colours below the waist/hips are more flattering ie less attention drawn darhn there!!!!

AuntMaggie - sorry delay - working late/late/late! I'm sorry to say I have no idea how to link clothes here (!) but I have tunic tops (and short dresses that look exactly LIKE a tunic if you see what I mean!) from various shops like River Island (size 18) and Asda (choosing non-cheapo looking colour combos in Asda such as black & white, dark green & cream, not garish pink/green combos!) and Simply Be in Oxford St, John Lewis etc etc. Honestly, far from frumpy I think they look almost "fun" (& I do wear these for work too as I don't pick super-casual styles). The reason I mention shorter dresses worn as a "tunic" is because, with leggings (of different lengths), it means you can wear them and not think ooh I'm over 50 and trying to be chavvy mutton-dressed-as-lamb!!!!!!! Jewelled flats/pretty flats and jewellery "up north" complete the look. As I'm a bit porky I am recently finding maxis make ME look frumpy and lumpy!

-2- I did try on about 6 maxis from various shops but they seemed to balloon out at my worst spot - the tum! Why do these fashion folk put a seam right near the tum area?!?!? If they shaped the maxi instead so it gently and very gradually flared out as it went down to the floor, that would be so much better - M&S are you listening?!??? But it was the same in the other shops too - I have had to give up with Monsoon for example. Just to say M&S currently have 2 asymetrical tunics on their website at mo - one is mid grey with cream stripes (prob nice with lots of silver jewellery) and has two "EXCELLENT" reviews (don't faint as I nearly did!) and one is black - failsafe as can put any colour jewellery with it - turquoise, coral, lemon, pink to match your leggings/trousers/sandals!!!

I've had a few nice dresses and tunics from White Stuff. I'm an 18 and 5'4, with short body and long legs - relevant as the longer tunics are short ( but not too short) dresses on me. Will wear these with leggings until my legs are a bit more tanned.
Some of their dresses are longer than knee- length on me.

Just to say I have no less than 6 of the Boden casual jersey dresses and highly recommend them. Knee length with sleeves, nice light material, easy to pack . Mine often get compliments. Just bought one with a voucher for £19.50!
