are dresses with black leggings unfashionable?

I'm tall and don't like my legs from the knee up, searched the Internet and can't find any dresses that are long enough, I don't suit skirts or maxi dresses so planning on getting through the summer wearing dresses with black leggings underneath. Is this terrible? Or ok? I wore this style throughout my pregnancy but could defiantly get away with it then.

I wear long tops with leggings and sandals. Not sure if they are still in fashion, can't say I care if I'm not following "trends". Comfort is more important to me.

Yep comfort and being practical whilst looking after young children is more important than being fashionable to me but I don't want to look frumpy. I'll have a look for some long tops, hadn't thought about that but tend to find they are not long enough anyway.

Both unfashionable and frumpy IMO. But undoubtedly practical, and a very popular look among the mums in the playground yesterday.

Seems a shame to me though - lots of really quite pretty summer dresses being ruined with thick black leggings sticking out the bottom.
I can see why people do it - a short dress on its own isn't practical for the park - but that doesn't mean it looks good.

On a hot day, when I'm going to be crawling around with the DC I'd rather wear a maxi, a top with shorts, or lightweight harem trousers with a vest. I'd wear the summer dresses with bare legs and sandals on days I know I won't be on a climbing frame or similar.

It depends on the dress, i wear it and i refuse to look mumsy or frumpy as im a big girl who doesnt like looking like anyone else (sometimes fail but yet to own a raincoat, mac, parka or anything my mum wore)

I choose dresses that look edgy, a bit goth or biker, think nice fabrics, zips and details.

Also the length of leggings are important, mid calf length or below calf length are a nono, only ankle length will do.

Then add fab bag and shoes and its a fine outfit, wouldnt wear it so much if i was slimmer but there are ways to not look frumpy.

I know it's a Mum Uniform but really, it's so perfect for a size 16 bird like me with wobbly thighs who is often found scrambling over soft play equipment.

Although I think dark grey or navy leggings are less harsh than black.

Not the greatest fashion move or look but if you're comfy I don't think it matters. My question about it has always been why? Surely dress and tights/bare legs or leggings and a long top/other sports wear?

Someone in my work had them a nice navy pair with a lovely navy jersey dress and some wedges. She looked effortlessly stylish and comfortable. I think they can look a bit shit now if you wear them 'a la whitestuff' - you know tunic and leggings but they dont have to look naf and can look flattering.

Have you tried the Tall ranges from Gap, Topshop, Zara etc? They won't necessarily have tall ranges in store but there's plenty online.

I think long tunic tops and short dress look good with leggings or lightweight skinny/slim jeans. For spring/summer I wouldn't wear black though, I would go for other colours instead as PPs have suggested. I like to coordinate so I'd go for colours to match the tops and dresses!

Don't know or care whether that's fashionable.

I feel your pain as a tall person. Tall ranges from high street shops are not really designed for those of us that are over 5'10".

I wear dresses with leggings. I know it's not cutting edge fashion but it's comfy, I get to wear pretty dresses and it's practical with a toddler.

Depends on dress length, but I'm short and it's my daily clothes. Dress needs to be quite short or it will look frumpy

I can wear the leggings out and about and then soon as I get home I can whip the leggings off and be nice and cool.
Perhaps I will wear this look to playgroups and then try and find something different for the weekend.
I'm not very tall 5"9 but have a long body and shortish legs so things just don't fit me properly. I will have a look at Zara and gap, havnt checked them out yet.

I think it looks fine except I think grey or navy leggings look much better with summer dresses.

Also if you really don't want to show off your legs then I don't think leggings hide them any better than ordinary tights do.

I'm reasonably and used to always wear the look you describe.

Still think there's nothing wrong with it, but since I've discovered harem style trousers I prefer that type of outfit instead. I tend to go for a (subtle) pattern on the trousers and a plain top. Very comfy.
