Casual, my office isn't casual enough for maxi dresses but yours might be different!

eurochick Fri 06-May-16 15:39:30

Casual. It's not smart enough for my office.

Casual. I sometimes wear more informal stuff to work in summer like chinos but that looks too beachy to me.

DameXanaduBramble Fri 06-May-16 15:48:29

Def not work.

Floisme Fri 06-May-16 15:50:29

It would be seen as dressed up where I work. Everywhere is different.

weirdsister Fri 06-May-16 15:50:39

I want something to wear to work to cover my legs. I work in schools so can get away with casual. Think it might be too beachy - yes.

AnchorDownDeepBreath Fri 06-May-16 15:51:58

I've never seen anyone at work in a maxi dress. I have no idea why. Maybe it's too difficult to find a balance between beachy casual and formal event?

swimster01 Fri 06-May-16 15:56:57

Casual - I don't recall having seen any of the teachers at our school in a maxi dress. An alternative might be culottes or capri pants if you are prepared to show a bit of leg?

weirdsister Fri 06-May-16 16:04:59

Yes I might have to go with capris but I don't have any!

Orangeanddemons Fri 06-May-16 16:15:10

I wore a maxi dress to work about 5 years ago as a teacher. Wouldn't wear one now though for anything.

TheGardenOfEdenExists Fri 06-May-16 16:18:12

You could wear it to work with flip flops and a cropped denim jacket at my place.

Although a bloke once wore a onesie to an office I was working in and no one batted an eye..!

BipBippadotta Fri 06-May-16 16:32:33

I think it would look less beachy / more worky in a darker colour and in a material other than jersey.

I think you don't see many maxi dresses at work because if you're curvy they make you look a bit hippyish, and if you're curveless like me you look like a child in a nightgown. They look perfect, I think, on women with long legs and perfect ankles and moderate boobs with a knack for finding just the right accessories.

weirdsister Fri 06-May-16 16:34:20

Yes I don't think I'm tall (or elegant) enough to pull it off at work. Will think again.

Work when it's consistently over 25 degrees all day (am a teacher)

A maxi skirt and a top is usually easier for casual-but-not-beachy than a maxi dress. Button through maxi skirts are very teachery indeed in these parts.

weirdsister Fri 06-May-16 22:29:17

Where could I get a nice maxi skirt from?

andadietcoke Fri 06-May-16 22:34:48

I had a lovely jersey maxi skirt from Joules last summer. Wore it with everything.

Ceilinglight Fri 06-May-16 22:41:30

Maybe monsoon. Might not be plain enough though

Or Phase Eight

MrsLettuce Fri 06-May-16 22:43:11

Depends what sort of style you're after, they're all over the place ATM. What sort of thing do you usually wear?

asos is never a bad place to start, or the department stores.

BestIsWest Fri 06-May-16 22:43:30

Maxis are banned where I work on health and safety grounds.

weirdsister Fri 06-May-16 22:49:31

I usually wear jersey dresses, but knee length. I'm not getting my legs out this year though!

I have one long tshirt dress from hush which is good as it's not too dressy or beachy. Keep checking their website as I'd buy another, but they have none in this year yet.

Will take a look at those shops on the links though - thankyou.

weirdsister Fri 06-May-16 22:50:10

bestiswest - has there been an incident?

BikeRunSki Fri 06-May-16 22:57:03

Lands end have some nice Capri length cropped chinos.

weirdsister Fri 06-May-16 23:06:25

Will have a look thanks.
