Does the Boden ruched skirt look shit on anyone else?

I had high hopes. I love it - it's so thick and well made. And it looks amazing on me from just below the waist down - really flattering. My bum and legs look amazing. But I cannot find anything to wear on top that looks good with it. I am a size 12-14 hourglass, carrying a little more weight around the middle than I usually life. Anything tight on top shows bulges, so that's out. But loose t-shirts and jumpers look really unflattering too and hang badly with it. I think this might be because I have large boobs. Anyone else having the same problem? I really like it but think it's going to have to go back :-(

How about trying a shirt or loose blousey type top tucked in loosely? Or something like a 'shell' top that has quite a bit of structure so it doesn't cling to any bumps? Think you'll just have to try lots of different types of tops!

Or return it and buy the dress version?!

I've got it and love it, I'm worn mine with a dark denim shirt which looks ok - you could leave that untucked? Also a fine knit sweater that is not too tight will just kind end in the right place if you know what I mean? And I've also worn it with a long line Breton from Boden tucked in which looks good (I have the black skirt). If you aren't happy wearing it in the summer how about keeping it for winter to wear with over sized chunky knits and tights with ankle boots?

I'm kind of intrigued by the ruched skirt but would also wonder what to wear with it.

I have both the ruched off shoulder dress and the ruched off shoulder top and LOVE them, by the way.

I've just got the stripey ruched skirt. I am also a 12-14, short with big boobs and a bit of a tum. I'm wearing mine today with a loose cotton khaki coloured open necked shirt (think it was from Gap but bought it in a charity shop). The shirt is long enough to cover the worst of my tum without being too long. I think it looks pretty good Grin.

I am also a 12-14 hourglass.
To be honest I just wear it with a plain jersey long sleeved top.
No baggy jumpers because then they would bag where I am actually a nice shape.

Boatneck top

And they also have a ruched top that goes well with the skirt apparently.

I have a very bulgy midriff, but love this skirt. I wear it with a long line vest underneath a fitted, but not tight, sweater. The bottom of the vest is visible, and I think this makes it more flattering. Don't know what I'll wear with it in summer though.

I'm wearing mine with a Boden Breton top I got a couple of years back, I'm a bit of an odd shape - no waist - but it rather suits me.

What's the sizing like? I'm 5' 9" do I need long if I want it just past my knees? Sorry to hijack!

I'm loving mine but am struggling with shoes. Too warm now for boots

Skippy- yes you would. I'm 5'6(.5) and I bought the regular. I have to wear it a bit pulled down a bit on my hips.

Granny I'm wearing mine with T bar flats today and I'll also wear with sandals when it gets hotter.

Thanks Rooby I'm am wearing with similar shoes today for work with a plain navy T and a navy suede biker jacket. I do like it but I'm a bit wary of looking a bit too young for me (I was 60 last month and it's made me wonder about some of the things I wear).. Annoying as I love clothes and have always been confident in my choices - got it very wrong sometimes but hey ho nothing ventured .......

granny I'm almost 60 too and think it's a great skirt. I have it in long so it finishes just below the knee and it's perfect for my body because it shows off my lower legs and arse - which are still in good nick - but smooths out and camouflages my saggy bits.

In fact I think it's wasted on younger bodies Smile

Sorry for hijack, op.

Have any of you boden ruched skirt lovers bought the Kettlewell one? www.kettlewellcolours.co.uk/products/trousers-skirts/item/ruched-skirt

It looks very short in the pictures but I'm under 5 foot so it might be OK.

I'm 5'3 nick and I'm giving it a miss but then I only wear them if just below the knee.

After googling "jersey ruched skirt" I have just ordered 4 (2 navy, 2 black in sizes 8 & 10) from Boohoo for a tenner each and £1.99 next day delivery. This was mainly because the Boden one was completely out of stock in Navy Long yesterday and only available in the Black in a size 8. Anyway, just looked again and they are back in stock in both colours and both sizes at Boden so I ordered these too. Already out of stock 5 minutes later in the Navy size 8 I see. I will report back. The Boohoo ones look very very tight at the hem so don't hold out much hope there.

NickEcave - Am 5ft 7 and the Kettlewell skirt is 1.5 inches above my knee (wearing it today). So think you'd get away with it tbh.

Could the ruched skirt be pulled down slightly, to sit on your hips rather than waist?

How easy is this to walk in? You know if you wanted to walk a good 20-30 mins? Or is it long and narrow enough to restrict your stride?

Though I have tummy issues too so might have to stick to my Isabella Oliver one (even though baby 7mo old now...)

Walking is OK - I did wonder if I'd find it restrictive but it just stretches as you walk

Eek, just ordered one

Worried it might be too sexy?! Tried on from Isabella Oliver (now Bauljen?) and because Of my wide hips it looked too "sexy" for day wear 😬

Disclaimer: I am not sexy, hence me sending it back!

Report
nickEcave · 06/05/2016 14:57

I agree it looks a bit "wriggly" but it actually stretches as you walk so you don't get that restricted mincing walk that a tight pencil skirt gives. If you wear something a bit drapey on top that downplays the "sexiness". I've been a big fan of above the knee tube skirts with thick tights in the winter for years and this is the first time I've tried a longer jersey skirt in the summer and I absolutely love it.

I have a pancake bum so don't have to worry about looking sexy in a tight skirt. I might give it a go. Isabella Oliver one makes me a bit wiggly because I can't take big strides.
