recommend me an exquisite perfume please

I love Coco Chanel, Hermés Merveilles, Dipytique Eau Duelle Molecule 1 and for a light everyday Philosophy Amazing Grace.

I want a new scent, one for special occasions for evenings one that can become a signature scent for me. I really would love an exquisite fragrance that is not too well known, not regular high street or Jo Malone.

I prefer musky Woody scents, does anyone have any ideas?

Thank you

Ask the Perfumistas for recommendations on their thread?

Frederic Malle or Boadicea the Victorius could probably offer you something you won't smell everywhere but they are both quite large ranges. I might talk to Les Senteurs in London (especially if you can speak to James) and ask for some ideas based on what you like. Start with samples before making the full bottle commitment (but you knew that!). Then come to the perfumista thread and tell us what you chose.

Thank you for all the suggestions, I'll give Les Senteurs a call also. Putting on perfume is a bit of a ritual I feel so would love the old fashioned type perfume bottle with atomiser.

I've just bought Jo loves red truffle 21. I also adore Jo Malone pomegranate Noir. Both unusual and lovely.

I really like the new Equinox bloom from penhaligons.

I think guerlain shalimar is exquisite - I have the original edp, the extra vanilla limited edition but I would say my favourite is the lighter eau de shalimar layered with the lotion. I have tried many other scents which I like but i only love shalimar.

Love this - earthy, woody and if you already like Esoteric Molecules it's by them to, very much in the same unusual vein.

Jo Malone Dark Amber and Gingerlily is a sensual, woody type of fragrance. I'm rather partial to it and like a lot of perfumes you mentioned in your OP, so it might be your type too.

Scrap that, you didn't want a Jo Malone Grin

This just landed in my inbox...only sold in Harrods so not your standard duty-free.

I second the Frederic Malle range. A very old fashion (to me) scent is the Portrait of a Lady. Something I picture Grace Kelly smelling like and coming from a 1950s perfume bottle. They sell them at Liberty of London.

I have found an exquisite perfume. It is supposed to be lily and vanilla but it doesn't smell like that on me so worth a try... It's Cartier Basier vole essence. The essence one has a spicy, woodsy dry down on me and the vanilla isn't the cloying type . I don't personally like the original baiser vole as it has too much of a green linear note but the essence version is far more complex.

I also came on to say Armani Prive Rose d'Arabie, it's beautiful and the only perfume I wear (don't wear perfume too often though!)

Oscar de la Renta. I've been wearing it on and off since the 80's and always get really nice comments, it's a classic.
