Dressing for a wedding.... in a field....

I posted a while ago asking for opinions on a maxi dress; most people agreed that it would swamp me. I'm 5'2 / 3" ish, dress size 6 - 8.

The wedding is now only days away and I still haven't sorted anything to wear!

My only criteria is to be warm. I am that person who is still wearing jumpers while everyone else is in t-shirts... always cold. I thought a maxi dress would work well as I could layer under it and still look pretty.

I've bought a lovely fitted jacket, but just can't find anything to match. The idea was I'd wear it with skinny jeans and boots or brogues depending on weather but the wedding which was non-conventional / relaxed when it was first planned is becoming more formal and jeans are an absolute no-no. I can't find any non-jeans trousers that fit or match the colour. It is similar to this but with a tweedy style check.

Any ideas would be really, really helpful. I need a fairy Godmother and a magic wand!

It's hard to say anything worth saying without seeing the blazer - is it maybe this one?

A smart tunic with leggings and flat boots? The fitted jacket is good but I see it more with a pencil skirt which might not be so practical for a field?

Thanks for the replies, I didn't think I'd get any!

This is the jacket - apologies for poor light.

Looks good! So, if I'm seeing right it's a green with charcoal and cobalt through it?

I know they are very different. Close to your original brief would be slim fit trousers which you could wear with brogues and then even swap for heels if there's a venue change. The dress may be a little too sparkly but think it might contrast well and work with the jacket.

The jacket is gorgeous!

I think this jacket is an odd choice for any wedding. It looks like a hacking jacket. To make it look remotely wedding like, try a full pleated skirt and metallic brogues. The shops are now full of summer clothes so I think you will be hard pressed to get anything to go with tweed. Can you find a cobalt blue dress? Personally I would get a fur coat to keep warm and find a lovely dress.

When you say 'in a field' how in a field is it? My London friends would have said they were going to my wedding in a field.

'Twas in fact a marquee with a false floor and heating.

Good point Silvertap. Very good point. Was assuming the latter really.

I think that jacket would be hard to match now. What's your budget?

I'll have to look at links on my laptop, my phone is going straight back to the first one every time Confused

Field is a proper field. Dilapidated old barn, portaloos, bring your own tent, kegs of cider.

I had thought of something like this so I could wear leggings & t-shirt underneath and layer with a warmer coat.

There is no heating Sad

I would wear one of the dresses with your jacket, nude tights, heels and a little bag and when the sun goes down go and change into jeans, vest, top, jumper, jacket etc etc

I think that's a sensible solution nilbyname. I'll have a look at the dresses tomorrow.

Bride has absolutely vitoed jeans at any point of the day. I might wear a fleece onesie in protest Wink

I'd go full length full skirt and a sparkly sleeveless slightly cropped top. That jacket has a hint of victoriana about it and a long skirt will work well (and you can wear leggings underneath or thermals

Mairzy - I've had four children. There will be no cropping!! But yes, a long skirt is good.

I love the sparkly Asos dress (links working hoorah!) but I think it is too much given the rural location. The Hobbs dress is lovely but I see cold legs. Sorry - I'm very difficult to please.
