Prom dress hell!

I have been looking with dd for a prom dress for her sixth form prom for a while now and we cannot find one ANYWHERE !! It is driving me mad. angry

Has anyone seen any nice ones, or good websites that sell them?

Ideally she would like red or black (but isn't too fussed). She's a size 14 and has large breasts - the latter being the problem with all the dresses we have so far tried on!

Budget is up to around £350 - though am happy to spend much less!!!

TIA

Maybe go for a corset back one to allow for boobs? Failing that a good seamstress will be able to take one in at the waist if you buy a size that fits on the boobs

Are you the same poster who posted about this not so long ago? Got loads of suggestions there?

MrsLettuce Mon 25-Apr-16 16:29:07

What sort of style is she after? Long, cocktail length, mini? Fitted or flowey?

What's her usual style?

justanothermum101 Mon 25-Apr-16 16:32:08

No, that wasn't me - I haven't posted about this before, but I might try and find that thread?

She wants a long one, fitted or flowy. She doesn't want much detail, but doesn't want it to be too plain IYSWIM?

My DD has just bought one in Monsoon - she is uber fussy, but I have to say the dress is really lovely.

TheBestChocolateIsFree Mon 25-Apr-16 16:36:19

Don't forget that with a budget like that you could afford to spend, say, 150 quid on something from Monsoon or wherever that's lovely but doesn't fit well and then get a good quality professional alteration to tailor it perfectly.

I'm afraid I can't manage links! Reiss.com outlet (top left) LARK dress. Lovely on, much better than the picture.

Have you tried Coast?

t1mum Mon 25-Apr-16 16:55:46

Being large of bust, I find Kaliko good for special occasions. I am middle aged, but if you have a look there are actually some really nice prom dresses that might suit a younger person.

e.g this www.kaliko.co.uk/kaliko/red-hot--maxi/060038477.html?cgid=ka_dresses_occasiondresses&dwvar_060038477_color=0322 (they are out of stock in 14s but she could probably wear a 12.

justanothermum101 Mon 25-Apr-16 17:11:09

Thanks for the suggestions smile

I will show them to dd later!

WindPowerRanger Mon 25-Apr-16 17:12:38

I'm assuming that by 'prom' you mean a tight bodice and flared skirt? Does your DD want the dress to be short, knee-length or long?

Have you tried Lindy Bop, Vivian of Holloway and other retro clothing sites?

Also, US department stores have a much better range of prom and formal wear. They now ship here (not cheap, but as the dresses are cheaper to start with you will still end up ahead). Nordstroms alone has dozens of options ranging from £48 (pink lace) to pay as much as you like. With that budget (you're mad!) Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman and Barneys New York are worth a look as well.

"WindPower" I think the OP just means anything suitable for a prom. The style is irrelevant. I found a lovely dress for DD from Debenhams, but she isn't large of bust so the dress I bought her probably wouldn't be suitable.

MrsLettuce Mon 25-Apr-16 19:06:23

red too plain? It's lovely on.

That is a gorgeous dress MrsLettuce

SunshineBee Mon 25-Apr-16 20:58:06

Have you looked at ASOS? There's literally hundreds (if not a couple of thousand) dresses to sift through and you can filter by style, length, colour etc. Lots of very gorgeous prom style dresses.

MrsLettuce Mon 25-Apr-16 21:37:08

ASOS is certainly well worth a look.

this is a fab dress if she'd prefer more coverage up top. Looks likes there's plenty of flexibility in the bust size.

An excellent bra is going to be needed whatever dress she goes with though.

John Lewis has some nice dresses which are a lot less than £350
