Does anyone have any advice re using day cream and sun protection on the face successfully?

I recently got a facial and was recommended to use two products of differing brands, bothoil free water based but when i apply them, i get ripples of product on my face. Am i doi g something wrong or do i just need different products?

Do you wait for the first product to sink in before you apply the second?

Oh dear, no. How long?

Ha, that used to happen to me - a lot!
Make sure that skin is completely dry before applying the first product. Between products, it shouldn't be long, a few minutes perhaps, for me it's usually the time it takes to brush my teeth.

This might answer the question I was going to ask: so do you wear moisturiser and UV cream on top? I have been wearing both but the UV cream feels so 'moisturizey' that I wasn't sure I need both. Maybe I need to leave the drying gap!

Yes I wear both. Someone else may know the science of it better but apparently the moisturisers with SFP are not generally great for sun protection when it's really sunny because they don't tend to be broad spectrum/high enough protection.
On other hand sun creams are only devised to protect and not deal with specific skin concerns (dryness/oilness/redness/wrinkles etc) so you need a good moisturiser to tackle that. Also sun cream only won't give you a good base for makeup, at least mine doesn't.

Also I wear serum before moisturiser too

Well, I went back and she said I had to put the spf on, leave it AT LEAST 30 MINUTES, then put moisturiser on, leave it at least 15 minutes, then apply my foundation. I'll need to be up an hour earlier at this rate! She gave me some foundation to try too but it was still a mess this morning. Going to take it all back for a refund on Thursday. What a waste of time! What does everyone else do?

wear suncream, that's it.

the British Association of Dermatologists explain that the farty french name SPF moisturisers aren't much use due to small percentages of sunscreen and thin application. They are ok for those staggering on high heels from office to indoor lunch and back, but not for those that actually go outside.

efficient suncream probably won't allow you to wear makeup on top. One or the other.

if you are indoors for most of the day, you won't see enough light to worry about UV exposure. If you are outside, wear sunscreen and forget the makeup - putting on foundation could rub off the sunscreen.

That's a real shame. I e spent loads on peels and IPL so need to protect my skin as much as possible. I may just use make up and save the spf for neck chest and hands.

Dermalogica do good, light moisturising bases with SPFs up to 50. I wear 50 SPF solar defence booster under Bourjois Healthy Balance foundation, which seems to work fine. I leave about 20 min between moisturising & doing my make-up.

Really Special? I don't have any problems with wearing mineral foundation over Anthelios ultra light fluid. I tend to let it sink in for 5-10 minutes first and I'm very liberal with how much I apply as I've got photosensitive skin allergies.

I'm Australian and have never heard this statement and our deems tend to be pretty clued in on sun protection.

Derms, not deems...
