If you have curly hair, how do you make it look nice for more than one day after washing?

I've recently embraced my curls after reading up on the curly girl method. I love it.

But it only looks nice the day I wash it. Once it's been slept on, it looks a complete mess. It goes all flat and flyaway and just shot. I have fine hair but lots of it.

I've tried dry shampoo but that doesn't really cut it.

There's this paticularly annoying bit of my hair, it must be the crown at the back, that just sticks out no matter what I do. I wet it, I've tried dry shampooing it, I've tried manipulating it, nothing works! Where am I going wrong?? I'll be fucked if I'm washing it everyday!

Should I be wearing my hair up when I go to bed? Is there some magical product I can use? I hate wearing my hair up during the day so it means I look a mess half the time.

Any tips?

Mine is mostly wavy with some loose ringlets. I perk mine up with beach/salt spray and it looks better than freshly washed. That might not work on proper curls though.

I read somewhere that a silk pillowcase makes a difference - might be worth a try?

I just make sure it gets damp all over in the shower and the curls reappear. That's with a fair dollop of product slapped on it on hair wash days, nothing on other days. I wash it about every 3-4 days.

I sleep with mine on top of my head, it's called "pineappling". Looks a bit daft but it does work. My hair days go like this

1 - wash in evening, go to bed with damp pineapple with curl creme and clear gel finger combed through
2 - fab curls all day (sometimes wet and crunch with conditioner)
3 - pineapple all night
4 - if I'm lucky I can have day 2 curls down, if not it goes in a high curly pony
5 - day 3 messy bun
6 - day 4 messy bun or some form of plait
Wash again on night of day 4.

I have very dry very thick hair so any more washing makes it look awful. I also reapply a bit of conditioner to the ends every day.

Jasper you have described my hair. I do have salt beach spray in my drawer but totally forgot about it until now! Will try it. Will also try getting it damp in the shower.

Silk pillowcases! Sounds lovely! Might have to buy some (payday hurry up)

I'm not sure I understand the pineapple thing. Do you tie it in a ponytail when it's wet/damp and sleep on it?

I wear a buff over my hair when I sleep (bought cheaply from Amazon)

Pineappling is when you tie your hair up on the top of your head to sleep. It doesn't work for me because it pulls my curls out at the front but hundred of curlies swear by it!

Wetting it too much doesn't work for me but spraying water from a small bottle is magic.

I twist mine up in three strands and pin it on top of my head for bed. It tends to look better the day after washing because of this.

Yes I put it in a damp ponytail up where a unicorn horn would go

Place marking. I end up straightening mine as I hate washing it every day.

Going to try this tonight. Do you use kerbi grips?

I use smallish crocodile clips, at least I think that's what they are called. Scunci, from Boots.

Thanks fafoutis

I passed out before I clipped my hair up!! So I'm going to try my salt spray this morning and see how it goes...
