Underwear and clothes when half way through weight loss

I have lost 1.5 stone over the last few months. I have another couple to go. I'm short so it's a lot of weight. It's a slow weight loss but I'm determined.
Problem is I don't know what to do about clothes. My bras are too big. Some clothes are too big but I have plenty in various sizes that I purchased as I was gaining weight. None actually fits though.
I know that when my weight is at goal I will treat myself to lovely underwear and new clothes. I will need support as I'm under no illusions that my boobs will be saggy and my belly the same.
But what do I do in the meantime? I look a mess. Nothing fits. But I can't afford a new wardrobe when hopefully by the summer I might be another stone down. I almost feel worse than I did when heavier when at least my clothes were the right size.
Any suggestions?

Congrats on your brilliant weight loss! Smile

Could you buy yourself a few cheap bits from Primark, Matalan or Sainsbury's etc?

My other advice is to get clothes with a bit of "give" (eg loose skirt with elasticated waistband) that will still look decent if you go up or down a few pounds.

ThanksGrin
I was wondering about cheap sports bras that stretch. They might not be supportive though. I've basically been living in leggings for years.
Can anyone recommend some good high waisted jogging type things. I really need to avoid a massive muffin top roll of skin.
I'm a pear generally. I have awful legs. Well I was once. Now I'm a fat pear with a flabby stomach.

Brastop sale or Leia outlet for one bra which fits you now? In skintine perhaps, so it goes under everything. Also, I love non wired Panache sports bras and as they don't have cups, they are very forgiving when weight fluctuates. They are sold in cup sizes though. Buy on the widest setting at the back and fasten tighter as weight drops.

Well done on the weightloss and I do hope you make your goal for summer. I think buying a few things from Primark is a great idea to boost motivation.

In a similar position.

Atm I am mistly living in jeans (old) pulled tight by a belt, tshirts (also old wardrobe, that I now tuck in so are pulled in with the belt). The extras I needed (two smart dresses) I went charity shop shopping at my nearest "posh" (for a better quality of charity shop donation Wink) town.

I haven't really had the problem with bra yet as I seem to have just gone from the loosest to the tightest setting. My bras come from Primark so not too big a deal.

For me it's working out how long I can make do with what I have and what do i need to add to make them last longer (eg belt). Then if there are gaps what is the minimum I can get away with purchasing.

Get just one or two decent bras that fit, they will make such a difference to how even cheap clothes look, I really think you will feel so much better that it will be a good way to stay motivated. Clothes - go cheap but only things you really like and feel good in.

Charity shops are your friend. New clothes when you reach target. Well done!

I'm in a similar position, congratulations on your weight loss!

I'm living in baggy dresses, and shirts with belted jeans, slightly rolled up, so that they're a bit mum shaped.

Thanks. I'm happy to search the charity shops. Im avoided buying clothes for so long that it's hard to know what to do!

Do you have anyone who would be a good shopping buddy? Just thinking if you haven't been shopping for ages it might be more fun with someone else, as long as they're encouraging and not rude!

I'd get one decent bra that fits then a few cheap and cheerful bits. You'll feel loads better about yourself in clothes that fit.
Well done!

I had two bras during rapid weight loss, one on one being washed!

I've had the same problems as I've lost 6.5st in 14 months going from a size 26/28 to a current 16. People ask how it's been and I always reply "expensive!" because of the constant purchasing of new items!

I buy a lot from Primark or in Tesco sales. I use the hand scanners to 'beep' anything I'm remotely interested in (in my size or the size below) and 60% of the time it comes up significantly cheaper than the sticker says.

My weight is becoming steady now, although I'd like another stone or so off, so I've started purchasing better quality things like NEXT or M&S but still in the sales or outlets. Charity shops are also great, especially in wealthier areas. There are some real bargains to be had! Our local hospice charity shop distribution centre recently held a 'fill a carrier for a tenner' event, it might be worth looking at your local area to see if something similar is happening near you?

I buy pieces that can be layered, like shirts, jeans that you can turn up, dresses that can be worn with leggings/tights as well as bare legged so I can adapt as the weather changes.

I used to buy loads as I was so unhappy with how I looked. My wardrobe was bursting at the seams but now I have a small capsule wardrobe I'm much happier!

Buy what you need in your current size. I'm currently in the slow process of losing a lot of weight and I think one of the reasons I became the size I was is because I hated how I looked in clothes so didn't bother. Now I love new stuff. The tip is to keep it in good condition and as soon as it's slightly too loose I flog on Facebook. There are plenty of clothing sales pages and as long as you photograph well, there are plenty of buyers. I then use the cash earned to replace in smaller sizes or more upto date things.

Isn't there name online app where you can swop clothes for situations like this?

Or am I dreaming it?

If I were you OP I'd do an inventory of what you have and if it can be adapted I. E. Worn with a belt, cardigan working as a top, accessories which help, as in scarves etc.

You could also have stuff altered : not sure if you know a good seamstress?

Charity shops.

If you come out of there without enough, go round the clothes shops and try on clothes to determine your current size in your preferred stores.

Then, hit ebay and search for store + size whatever. Alter the search criteria to come up with "used" and it'll be charity shop prices without the middleman of the charity shop.
