Granny chic, or just granny?

I need a pair of comfortable sandals (sorry, it's yet another sandal thread), but I've looked at so many pairs I've lost all sense of what looks OK and what doesn't.

I know there are a lot of 'fugly' styles out there which are undoubtedly comfy, but I'm 61, so what looks cute on a 25 year old will just look ridiculously frumpy on me.

So, I like these and these and possibly these . But are they nice? horrible? or are they (as I would like to imagine) perfect for a woman in her 60s who has a good figure, dresses OK and wants to look as if she has made an effort.

Thanks for any advice or input (or other suggestions).

I think the second and third are much nicer than the first pair.
They all look very comfortable.

cuntycowfacemonkey · 13/04/2016 11:04

They look comfortable but not remotely stylish . I would look at birkenstocks they're very popular and suitable for a wide age range.

I would say you're a good 10 to 15 years away from the ones in your link

MamaLazarou · 13/04/2016 11:11

They do look comfy but I am afraid the first ones are not chic in the slightest and the other two would become worn and grubby very quickly.

How about these ?

QueenMolotov · 13/04/2016 11:14

I second the pp who suggested Birkenstocks. They are comfortable as well as stylish (IMO); much more so than the ones you posted. You have to think about what goes with your style, rather than what suits your age Smile

TrulyTrulyTrulyOutrageous · 13/04/2016 11:16

I like the first ones. Dont look frumpy to me.

Enb76 · 13/04/2016 11:19

I think the first pair are much the nicest and they won't make you ankles look fat which the other two certainly will. I can't wear heels and have no desire to wear anything flimsy and also don't want to look like a granny. I rather like Think! sandals - they are very comfortable and come in nice colours - they're a little pricey though you can often find them cheaper in the same sort of indy shoe shops that stock Ecco.

These for example

I do have Birkies but think they're a bit clumpy to wear with skirts. Thanks for all the input.

I'm sorry, but I think the ones linked by Mama and Enb are even more 'grannyish' - just goes to show how we all have different ideas of what works and what doesn't.

Perhaps I'll have to try some on and see what looks right on my feet (or perhaps I'll just go for comfort and give up worrying about what they look like!)

I liked 1 and 2 from your OP but not in those colours. Those dusty purple/mushroom colours seem more typical of Hotter. I would agree that Emb's one is grannyish which shows there's a lot of subjectivity so you may as well go with what you like.

Hatefeelingdown · 13/04/2016 11:54

I don't like any of them.

I'm in my fifties and wear Birkenstock all summer, I have a pair of bronze/gold ones this year.

chemenger · 13/04/2016 11:59

I like the first best. Emb's are so far from my taste that I can't take them seriously Grin which just shows that maybe we should just go with what we like rather than worrying about what other people think. She's right about the fat ankle thing though.

LanaorAna1 · 13/04/2016 12:12

OP, the way they're styled on ecco makes them look ok in the opening shots, but the product shots (that open in your link) reveal the tragic truth.

You can't wear any of them. You could wear ecco's black ones with two chunky straps or the black slides. Both comfortable but not cringeworthy, and could almost be found in Whistles.

Have a look at fitflop, some of their designs (I stress the 'some') are proper Scandi chic & bliss on the toes.

BestBeforeDate · 13/04/2016 12:15

Maybe I'll just have to get more Birkenstocks. My current ones are black, but maybe if I go for a more summery colour they won't look so clumpy. Colours are difficult - I want something that'll go with everything but I don't want beige/white/silver. I think I want the unattainable, but that's life.

Birkenstock bronze colour is very versatile. I like the first pair you linked to but all the others are frumpy IMO.

Chiliprepper · 13/04/2016 12:35

I like the first pair... sort of a simple Esprit style?

ThirtyNineWeeks · 13/04/2016 12:40

I like the second pair.

Birkenstocks are so bloody hipster.

notasgreenasiamcabbagelooking · 13/04/2016 12:47

I have these www.panamajackshop.com/uk/en/woman/footwear/dori-tropical-b1

which are super comfy and I don't think they're too grannyish. I love saltwater but they're too flat for me. You can sometimes get some panama jack styles on amazon a bit cheaper.
