And is it worth it? Need to transform myself ! have started slimming world now need to focus on wardrobe. Had a personal shopping session at debenhams but was not v successful so looking for more advice. I've read about house of colour or colour me beautiful . Any views? I'm in surrey

I had my colours and make up done with CMB last October as it was something I'd wanted to do for a while. Lady in London (near Hammersmith) but can't remember exact cost. I had a 121 and thought it was a great experience. My swatches go everywhere with me when clothes shopping and I thought their make up was lovely too.

CMB don't do the seasons but HOC do. I was clear/warm with CMB.

Yes, I've done both colour and style with both CMB and HOC. I think it really depends on the person doing the colour / style to be honest. I've been to a few and one was, to put it kindly, rather out of touch. Another was very icy with me for some unknown reason. One was fabulous though so it all depends on the consultant. Get a recommendation if you can (from someone who looks fantastic).

No - I think I can see what colours suit me and I'd rather just look in the mirror and trust my instincts than bother with swatches and seasons.

But if I couldn't see it for myself then I'd definitely get it done.

Hi! Yes - from CMB and HOC. To be honest, I think both systems are as good but it depends on the individual - there is a very good CMB person in Kingston if you are anywhere near. (I'm clear and warm in CMB too - Spring in HOC)

You definitely need to take some of the advice with a pinch of salt, especially if you follow up a colour day with the style one. The lady that did mine is the epitome of the air hostess look which is about as far from my style as you can get.

I did find the colour day good though - despite being a creative type I can be surprisingly rubbish at seeing what suits me so it was good to get an opinion from someone neutral. I came out as Soft Summer which I can see works on me but I must admit I haven't drastically altered my wardrobe because I just don't like some of the summer colours regardless of whether they are 'mine'. I also get a kick out of breaking the rules from time to time and wearing black just because I can .

But I did enjoy both days and came out as roughly what I expected in both colour palette and style personality so in a way it was good because although there were no big surprises it was nice to realise that I actually know more about what suits me than I thought I did!

Totally agree with 21guns. I was told I 'couldn't' wear stripes after my style day (total rot - love a good Breton as much as any other mum) and I definitely don't always have a 'splash' of very bright colour like I 'should'. However, I have to admit, coral and apple green do suit me.... (And I wear navy more than black!)

I did. I was hugely embarrassed about it and worried it was gong to be a waste of money. In the event, I really enjoyed it and it's helped me enjoy shopping and getting dressed up again. Only problem is now I can't stop shopping and know what will look good on me I paid £130 for a 2hr consultation with a HoC lady. She gave me advice on clothes, make up, hair colour and a little bit of style - so not bad really, considering how many shite clothes I've bought and thrown away over the years.

Had mine done online recently. Lovely lady called Pamela who sends a questionnaire for you to complete and send with photos of yourself. I thought she was in America as she spelled 'Color' the American way - turns out it's the most common spelling for people do an internet search and as her business is online she picks up clients from all over the world! I paid £45 and for that got a personalised analysis I could print out, and a printable colour chart.( If you want to buy the fabric swatch that is extra).I mainly had it done because I wore a dress for my sons wedding that everyone said was the perfect colour on me (Kingfisher blue) so I wanted to find out what else would be good too.
Took a couple of days and i came out as a Spring, and I love most of the colours apart from a couple of the greens. I then asked her to do my twin sister - she wasn't keen as she thought we'd be the same, but when I sent pictures she realised we are totally different - and she ended up being Winter!
We both thoroughly enjoyed the experience!

I have done HOC colour and style. They shouldn't make you dress like an air hostess unless you have the sort of classic style that suits that look. I was sceptical but after examining some before and after selfies I'm more convinced.

I felt the business dress guidelines were a bit outdatedly formal - apart from very high level finance, law etc, most workplaces are more casual now. And it is only guidelines you can take it or leave it.

I loved getting mine done. Has given me back some confidence about how I look. Cost me a fair bit in terms of shopping for a year or so afterwards but have got past that now!

I had mine done at John Lewis as part of a two hour consultation. Very gentle approach to all aspects of clothes and accessories which I really enjoyed. I am totally clueless about many aspects of colour so it was very good for me but I also took away some valuable tips about dressing my body proportions; short-waisted, long legs, monster boobs etc........ That advice has served me as well as the colour guidance. Two years on, the advice really does help me but it has mellowed from an obsessive "must obey" into a slightly more relaxed approach. Really pleased I had it done.

I had mine done twice - once with CMB a few years ago which was a bit of a disappointment (I think it really depends on your consultant though) and one with Gabi at Chromology, which was brilliant.

I look warm at first glance (make-up counters always try to sell me foundations which are too warm and yellow) but am actually on the cool side of neutral, a Bright Winter in the Sci Art/ 12 Blueprints system which Gabi uses.

The CMB consultant decided I was "soft" and "warm" based on my appearance, and sent me away with a book of Autumn-type colours that yellowed and dulled my teeth, skin and eyes. I never used them. Gabi was quite exact about showing me how my skin and eyes reacted to each test drape, and it was amazing how much better I looked in the Bright Winter colours. I get compliments whenever I wear these colours and feel much more polished.

She is based in Oxfordshire but it was worth the journey for me.

Personally it's not for me. I'd hate to be told khaki , grey or beige were my colours when I wouldn't wear those shades no matter how good they might make me look.

If a colour is not going to bring me joy..( thinking of Maria kondo) then why would I want to wear it.

I believe colour is important. My husband is having colour therapy to help restore his sight after a stroke. The colours that are beamed at him are red ( mainly) green and blue. Some are excitable...like red and others are calming.

We went to a lecture last year on healing. The man taking it was dressed head to foot in pink. ( no, he wasn't wearing a onesie) nice pink jumper, pink and white striped shirt, dusk pink jeans. He said he just felt drawn to pink on that day.

( I haven't managed to shoehorn hubby into pink jeans yet...bit I'm trying. Got him a beautiful striped pink shirt for his birthday though)

I emailed the lecturer ,( he gave us some healing ) and said I'm intrigued to see what colour he will choose for this weekend.

I'm thinking mint green...we shall see!

Dowser that sounds so interesting. But IME having your colours done gives you a palette of brights and neutrals, just in tones that suit your colouring.

And... Before I had my colours done I mainly wore black as I thought it was easy and hid my shape. However I'm quite pale and didbt realise just how much it was draining my face of colour. I was told I'm a bright Autumn and now I have a fabulous wardrobe of v flattering colours that all match and really suit me! I think when you're young you can get away with a lot but as you age it can be helpful to know which colours drain you and which light you up. Has saved me a fortune in regretted purchases too!

Yes, I've had mine done and can totally recommend it. I was picked out of the audience at a CMB lecture that I went along to at a local beauty therapy college (I'm a cool summer, not many of us about apparently).

Anyhow, I find it makes clothes shopping so much easier. I look for the correct colour first (rather than searching out a particular style) and now rarely end up with something that looks great in the changing room but not so good at home in natural day light.

It has literally changed my life! No more the morning clothes crisis. No more putting things on, looking in the mirror and taking them all off!! It took a while to change my wardrobe over but now I love everything because it all suits me. I really rate it.
