PEARS!!! What do you wear on holiday? never found a pair of shorts that fit!

I've just booked our summer holiday - it's in 3 months time and I am currently 3 stone overweight Sad

I've never found a pair of shorts that fits me - I have HUGH thighs!

What do other pear shaped women wear on holiday? Has anyone found the holy grail of perfect shorts?

I'm a pear, though a tall, not overweight one, and honestly, I don't think shorts suit a pear-shape.

I usually wear knee length A line jersey skirts on holiday, from White Stuff or Mantaray, with fitted vest tops, or wide legged linen pants in black, navy or white. Simple jersey or cotton maxi dresses/skirts are also good options.

3/4 length linen trousers

Dresses with leggings underneath (for chub rub)

I wear some men's ones I bought from Fat Face.

Only shorts I've worn for years. They look fine.

I never wear shorts - even when I was a size 10.

much prefer to wear skirts - knee length and flowing, or shorter and tighter. I think they are far more flattering than shorts. Look more groomed too.

Also lightweight dresses are very comfortable and let the air flow when the temperatures are hot.

sweetheart are you me? Grin
I always have this problem in the summer.
Hate my massive thighs, also my chubby knees. Skirts look ok but then I get the dreaded chub rub Blush
Not sure what the answer is really! Even if I lose weight the thighs will still be huge!

Skirts or dresses with leggings or cycling shorts underneath.

I agree. Forget about shorts. 3/4 length trousers will be far more flattering. It can still be tricky to find the right ones though. I am also a pear, slightly overweight (less than 1st) but short. 'Aladdin' type 3/4 trousers suit me but they are tricky to find without the silly hanging crotch harem thing or too much fabric. These suit me: www.annscottage.com/seafolly-black-aladdin-capri-pants-51545s14-blk?utm_source=google_shopping&134=686&gclid=Cj0KEQjwxI24BRDqqN3f-97N6egBEiQAGv37hMZ6VTYNQAMeoNQmkU-0lE-0chKUThVKoIGlPJ14_nAaAmcu8P8HAQ

I notice whenever I'm in holiday in France that women have a lovely assortment of summer trousers that just aren't available here; many just look like Indian yoga-type flowy trousers. Very lovely and summery.

Pear here. 10 on top, 12 (sometimes 14) bottom. Saddle bagged pear. It's hard on hols, there's a fine line - it can turn to frump (Apols for the word, can't think of an alternative) so quickly. I have skirty shorts. They're nice, not awful like they sound. 2 pairs from Zara 2 years ago, and another ancient pair from hols. T-shirt dresses. Jersey skirt from H&M. Keep trying on shorts. I also think we are far more of our thighs than anyone around us. So a lot of the time I just wear shorts (H&M, Gap chino shorts not half bad), fake tan, and try to forget about it. I'm on hols!!

I'm pear 12 bottom and 10 top and I wear shorts or skirts/summer dresses.

In 3 months you could easily lose a stone and tone up if you upped your exercise so that you feel better about yourself?

I have a pair of khaki mid thigh shorts from BHS of all places that I live in on holiday, but they are quite casual. HoweverI have had them for at least 5 years so not necessarily available now, but now is probably a good time to go looking for summer stuff as it is starting to come into the shops? months before anyone needs it and while it is slipping back into winter weather.

If I'm not wearing them, I usually just throw on a Gap beach dress (t shirt thing that comes just above the knee with a slightly elasticated waist) over my bikini.

I'm a 12 top and 14 bottom. I've looked hideous in shorts ever since I can remember. I wear skirts or dresses with cycling shorts underneath if it's really hot.

I'm like a pp - stick to fitted tops and linen trousers/palazzo pants. I do have a few nice cotton/linen dresses but would need to wear shorts underneath because of my big thighs...

I've always looked crap in shorts, whereas look quite good in wide legged linen trousers and knee length dresses. So I'll pick those for city type breaks.

I do wear shorts on cycling and hiking holidays , next chino shorts were not that bad.

3/4 length trousers make me look frumpy, even the lovely tailored ones, the proportions are wrong and I don't have great ankles. Just above the knee tight jeans type shorts can look ok though, but not great in heat.

So glad to see I'm not the only one facing this annual dilemma. I do plan to loose some weight before holiday but realistically it's likely to be 1 stone so will still be a heffer!

I do tend to stick to summer dresses but agree about the dreaded chub rub - how do you all find cycling shorts that don't roll up your legs under the dresses?

Sometimes skirts are just not practical though are they when you're doing active things with the kids. 3/4 trousers aren't great on me either to be honest - my whole bottom half is just a disaster area - cankles are us!

Pears need dresses and skirts like fish need water!

Fitted around hip then flaring out, or a-line best. Or something drapey.

I am a fairly "slim" pear (size 12, 6ft) and look hideous in shorts)

I'm a pear and wear black shorts that I bough from George at Asda. The black is flattering and they are not that short.
I think 3/4 length make me look shorter and fatter.

i don't wear shorts - they are just horrific on me
i say that as someone who will happily wear a bikini after 2 DC
i wear dresses on holiday - both short and maxi
i have a very slim top half which IMO is the key to maxis looking half decent and not all Demis Roussos

I am a pear, shorts do not look good on me. I don't go for those wide linen three quarter trousers, they are grim too.

Best things are lightweight tailored capri pants, harem pants in light material, or mainly skirts/desses (but then research chub rub - loads of threads about that on here).

Summer dresses or lightweight dresses for the beach.

I have a search set up on Ebay.

OK i am going to be brave and ask an embarrasing question. Those of you who wear cycling shorts to prevent chub rub, do you find you get more - ahem - sweaty in the - cough cough - groin area? Blush I do seem to suffer from this (I'm not massively overweight, about 2 stone to lose, size 14) and the thought of adding an extra layer makes me worry about extra sweat.

I'm with Piddleypower - lightweight stretch cotton capri's or 7/8th chinos
I had some good ones from M&S last year, boden do them as do Gap. Basically they are shorts for pears (ie they go right down over the dodgy knees

For me the trick is to have them as fitted as possible without being "too tight" and find the sweet spot length wise where they look best on you (I have cankles too)

Google comfort shorts. Lightweight, cotton shorts to wear under dresses.
