SIl's wedding in July. I'm not very glanourois

The women of the family are very glamorous. I don't fit in with my usual scruffy look! They dress up for Sunday lunch, evenings at each other's houses and shopping.

A new dress for me is an event and, God, buying new shoes! Ugh!

However, I am prepared to make the effort, of course!

I suit maxi dresses (I think). The last dress I bought was a navy maxi for a ball and it was lovely. Maxi dresses mean no worrying about legs (not very shapely) and less worry about footwear (terribly ugly feet and can only manage low heels).

I'm 5'6", size 8, dark hair (pixie), 'winter' colouring (HOC). My best colours are raspberry, dark red/ burgundy, royal blue, navy, charcoal.

Budget for dress under £100. If shoes can be worn other than at the wedding then all the better.

Any ideas? Thanks.

I like all those linked to so far. But do they look right for a wedding? Not too ball gowny?

It's hard to know! Is there a dress code? You just said 'glamourous'!

something along the lines of this would be more typically weddingy but it's not what I'd call glam. Nice though.

No, they're fine :-). I like the Mango and Monsoon ones. (You sound sweetly like my family who shudder at the idea of dressing up and even consider jeans a smart option as usually joggers are the norm).

Look up Virgos Lounge on asos!

Have a look at Chi chi clothing - loads of wedding guest type dresses, mostly knee length or maxi so good for non fab legs. John Lewis stock some but their own website has lots more styles.

I do think shorter legnth would be better for a July wedding. Do you think you could get the legs out a bit? with neutral tights , a contrast pasmina or cardi ( maybe in raspberrry and navy block heels this would look good
or this
If you want a more 'casual' maxi how about this?

Thanks. I'll browse those links properly tomorrow. No dress code, Mrs Lettuce. I just meant that the rest of the family are very glamorous. I don't want to look dull!

The last dress Mrs posted is gorgeous.

Now I'm starting to worry that a maxi would look like I'm pretending to be a bridesmaid! Especially in the colours I like!

Maybe I need to brave the legs thing after all.

I suit fitted shorter dresses - look like a little girl dressing up if I try skater dresses or flared things.

A shorter dress would make it a lot easier to do glam without being totally OTT

this is an amazing dress. It's over budget but you might have black shoes already so I'm linking anyway.

Oh, yeah, forgot about the whole 'colours' thing. Sorry. Hmm. Do you prefer print or block colour?

Ah, have got me screen light turned down low for a headache. Didn't notice Blush TBH I preferred it monochrome.

Oh I really like those last two! I don't think I can have black though.
Thanks for trying!

Go to Debenhams to see a personal shopper, free and no obligation to buy anything. All they need is your budget, what type of thing/event you have in mind, sit back in your own changing room in a comfy seat, they supply the cuppas and mags for you to relax with while they go round the shop and present you with a rail full of things to try, plus shoes and accessories- it's brill
