backless jumpsuit at 46? at a wedding?

Please talk some sense to me?

I'm going to be mother of the groom at a marquee, sort of hippie wedding.

I am small with similar colouring to the model, but not at all pretty and quite boisterous.

Am I being ridiculous to consider this at my age?

what bra will you wear?

God no, at your sons wedding? No, no, no!
Though 46 is meaningless if you can carry it off (be honest, though), get it and wear it for a night out.

I would say no. Even if you were 26 and toned as fuck I'd say no. It's not so much the exposed back, it's that plus the side belly. Too much skin for a wedding.

Thankyou, one of those backless ones with the strap around the waist - I know a good dressmaker who can raise and take in the waist on the jumpsuit ...

I don't think it's so much about age, if you have the figure for it , as that it's not appropriate for a wedding. Too much flesh on display sorry.

It's a pretty jumpsuit and I'm sure you would look fab in it - age has got nothing to do with it if you have a nice back and don't need a bra - but possibly not as the mother of the groom - remember Sophia Loren at her sons wedding :)

But buy it anyway and wear it on a night out.

No. Your DS won't thank you. It's not your age, it's the occasion.

I don't think it's anything to do with age, I think it's to do with confidence and appropriateness for the occasion. And something about always dressing as yourself - just tuned up/down for formal/casual. People look uncomfortable when they feel like they're wearing someone else's clothes.

So:

  1. will it make you feel great?
  2. can you can carry it off (and do you have tit-tape skills)?
  3. are you sure it suits the occasion? I kind of agree with the PP with the Sophia Loren references. Brigitte Bardot too...

What's the MOB wearing?

Alternatively buy it and get your dressmaker to put a white chiffon panel in. That way you still have the look but not the bare skin

I like it. Probably a bit too exposed for a church wedding but if it's a fairly low-key event then why not?

Do you know what the mother of the bride is wearing? I have no experience (not married) but from listening to all the conversations and planning for other family members weddings, I gather the mothers often liaise on outfits beforehand.

Thank you, I reckon you're very, very right - have you seen a jumpsuit like this without the exposure? I don't do showing my legs - I've a small waist but real male rugby player legs.

It is the cut out bits at the front which I think are the issue.

Do you particularly want floral and wide-legged?

I meant Raquel Welch previously. Not Brigitte Bardot.... Blush

I think the fact you are asking shows you have doubts. So I'd say no.

I think this is elegant.

Erm, there is the toilet thing too. After a few glasses of champagne, I wouldn't want suddenly to have to rip all my clothes off to go to the loo at a wedding.

Brilliant Dragon, I like the idea of chiffon, do you think a uniglo vest would work underneath it? It's not a church wedding if that makes it any better?

No to the vest - you either wear it with cut outs (and please don't) or find something else.

I does seem to me that trousers and a matching top could get the look while being a lot easier to negotiate, if you know what I mean.

No it's not to do with age, but if my MIL had worn something like that I think I would have fainted Grin
