Lingerie plus size - do you? would you?

lasttimeround · 23/03/2016 14:02

I wanted to buy some sexier nightwear etc and have put on some weight. I'm now a bit torn tho. The salesgirl seemed quite scathing and said they don't do 'those kinds of clothes in those sizes' .
Im embarrassed - is it not done? I'm a 16 maybe an 18 and definitely wobbly. I'm worried my ego couldn't take a look like that from my husband.
Please be gentle

Holy shit I can't honestly believe anyone would say that! She must be having a terrible day. Or else, hang on, this wasn't in Paris was it? That is the only place I have ever had any shop assistant be scathing about my size (I'm also a 16). Maybe it was the same person!

Everywhere sells nice lingerie - from M andS to Ann Summers, to EBay.

Your husbands loves you and will likely just be happy you want to seduce him.

What a bitch! Until recently, I was a size 16/18, and my husband appreciated it when I wore lingerie! It does exist, silly woman doesn't know what she's talking about, as well as being horribly insulting.

I suggest trying to find another shop - I'm so angry for you that she said that. Please don't let it knock your confidence - I'm sure your husband will love it, too!

And, yes I would wear sexy underwear. I do so when I cba to and my DH happens to love it! The pieces I have are just a bit uncomfortable / impractical, so I don't wear it a lot.

Thank you. I've come over all teary.
It's been a tough few years and I haven't bought anything decent in ages. Feel totally out of practice. I went into an Italian brand shop I'd once bought a few things from on holiday in italy that had been lovely (many many years ago ). The shops in London - staff were all young and maybe Italian and I felt such a frump. My husband is lovely but it just made me afraid it woild be embarassing rather thsn sexy. I will try online.

Is 16 even plus size?! How horrible for you. Have you tried Bravissimo?

How rude! Intimissimi/Calzedonia? They believe that women only have B-cup boobs, so they don't do 'those sizes' for most of the population. Of course there's plenty of pretty and sexy lingerie avaliable in 16/18.

The sales girl was a bitch. Ignore.

Maybe if was just an English as a second language thing and I'm projecting my insecurities into it. I just heard a woman your size has no business trying to be sexy and I totally quailed - even tho my head says that's dumb.

Yes it was intimmissimi! I had some things from there lasted years and really lovely now they've ruined all the nice associations I had with their shop.

Try online. Brastop currently have Curvy Kate sets starting at a tenner. They also do nightwear All is aimed at the DD+ woman. It's also worth looking at Figleaves

I'm so sorry you had such an unpleasant experience...

There are lots of places to look for and find beautiful lingerie and nightwear for "those sizes", Slug's suggestions above most definitely, but there are lots of other sources - Georgina Horne's blog is fullerfigurefullerbust.com/ you'll find all sorts of body-positive encouragement, reviews, links to sellers and generally many ways to feel good about yourself, whatever your size.

As long as your husband isn't a douche he will love you whatever you're in, but I bet he'll be thrilled if you flash some frillies at him!

Be of good heart, there's a lacy bra for everyone, even "those sizes", I promise.

What a daft woman! I model at that size, often in sexy lingerie type
I can recommend lovehoney, there's a plus size section on there for more bedroom type stuff
Curvy Kate do lovely babydolls with proper bra cups, I have the Bardot which is a sheer one (they do a bra set that's sheer too)
If there's anything in particular you have in mind and don't want to post, just drop me a PM and I'll try to help

I have just ordered two items from Next. One is like a slip/nighty thingy and the other is a 38DD babydoll thingy. I'm a wobbly size 16. I ordered online and they came yesterday.

all I need now is the confidence to wear them. Happy birthday DH Grin

Parfait babydolls are really cute and sexy. I know they do them in fuller bust cup sizes and at least to an 18. I'm sure your husband will prefer any sexier nightwear to regular t-shirts/pyjamas, so go for it!

Um, that's a bog standard size. M&S have oceans of lingerie that size and much bigger.

Ha ha, I came on the thread to recommend Georgina Horne. She had some amaaaazing Polish bras I covet. She does boudoir shoots and all sorts, and showcases a lot of underwear that flatters bodies much bigger than yours! You can look absolutely stunning as a confident 16/18, and rubbish as an insecure 14. Sexy is in the head not the thighs!

Thank you ladies. The links are great. I love the georgina horne site. I'm really having my eyes opened. I was afraid of online as I thought the models would make me feel disappointed with how I then look in the same outfit. And there's plenty to cover my middle a bit without being mumsy. And some real inspiration - I love all the body positive stuff. I'd like some of that Smile thank you all so much. I had felt quite crushed now I'm feeling (a bit nervously) excited.

Of course you can look sexy in lingerie at size 16/18! Name and shame the shop so we can boycott them!

I bet your husband would be thrilled to bits if you wore some sexy lingerie for him.

Intimissimi are the people who seemed to only have nursing bras up to a C cup (on the 3rd floor! Who puts clothes that heavily pregnant women need on the 3rd floor with no lift?!) I assumed it was just a Belgian thing, but maybe the whole chain has issues!

Simply Be have some nice stuff. Then you don't even need to go into a shop! I was very impressed with the lingerie in Yours clothing too.

I am the same size as you and I did a "boudoir" photoshoot last year in my simply be sale purchases! A fantastic experience.

I myself can't stand Georgina Horne/Cox, I appreciate that she's making plus size and sexy a "thing" but she grates on me. There are plenty of other plus size fashion bloggers I adore though, I follow many on instagram.

OP is there a chance her tone came across wrong and she was just saying they don't stock your size? They're absolutely daft if they don't, but that's definitely their problem as a brand.

I really hope you find some nice stuff, sounds like you had a naff experience but loads of places stock 16/18 - of course they do and no way on earth should you feel anything other than confident and sexy.

That's awful! I'm a size 20 and I love nice underwear. I haven't had a relationship for bloody years but I still buy it because I love the way it makes me feel!
16/18 is no big deal hon. I felt my sexiest at that size. Confidence is the sexiest thing in the world so buy some undies and ramp it up!
