Can't seem to find a flattering lipstick. Can you help?

For years I have been wearing true red lipstick but having seen a recent picture of me I must admit it is doing me no favours. My skin tone seems to have changed and it has now taken on a joker like quality.

I have tried tonnes of different colours but they all seem a bit off. I look washed out in nudes, pinks of any description look grey and orange clashes. The deeper berry tones don't suit me anymore either.

Any ideas?

Forgot to add I have fair skin, dark brown hair and grey blue eyes and my best clothes colours are charcoal and navy.

Have you tried any berry shades? I'm similar colouring to you and, after years of lusting after reds, I've finally come to the conclusion that they simply aren't for me.

Ah, sorry, just noticed you've tried berry as well. The one that works best for me (and panders to my red obsession) is Nars Velvet Lip in Baroque. It lasts about 5 minutes though. The other surprising find has been Mac Spice it Up I would never have considered it had it been left up to me.

Try cool colours, so purple reds or even purple

I am a devoted fan of ManTrap by Soap and Glory, in Boots. It's a softer, easy to wear red that looks flatteringly red but without the harshness. It also lasts ages and feels nice on.

Nearer to a 'your lips but better' colour is Perfect Day, also by S&G. They're the only two lipsticks I've ever bought more than two of - I so so hope they're never discontinued.

Have you tried the No7 analysis thingy they do? Helped my mum find a really flattering shade of lipstick

I have similar colouring, I love Medieval by Lipstick Queen, it's a sheer ruby red and very flattering

Mac Plumful is excellent.

Or try Lipstick Queen (from Space NK). They've got a blue one that goes plum (but I've not tried it), and a green one that goes pink. It magically works out the best shade for you. I tried it amongst a group of friends out for dinner the other night, and we were all astounded at the difference in shades.

Try Rimmel 08 by Kate Moss, it's darker than this on me. Tastes strongly of almonds which not everyone likes but I don't mind.

Also the Balance Me lip balm that's free with this month's Glamour is a lovely shade of berry and easy to wear.

Have you ever tried a slightly brownish red, or auburn? They might suit.

Thank-you for all these excellent suggestions. I popped out and bought lashed out a Clarins lipstick in Pink Ginger which is okay. It's getting there....

It's still a bit bright though to my mind. What do you think?

Racquet that Kate Moss one is gorgeous.

I like that op. I am of similar colouring and prefer rose tints on my lips (but they are quite thin so perhaps that is why)

I don't
Think it looks too bright at all.

Looks really
Lovely!

I like it on you, but would also try a bluer red (like the Kate Moss one) with your colouring.

I think it looks nice on you from your pic. You also have lovely shaped lips! I know pp slag off getting your colours done, but it can really help in getting your colours right. We're all different and for me, it was worth it's weight in gold to get it done!

That's really nice! If it still seems a bit bright, I would try a more sheer formula rather than a lighter colour.

That colour is gorgeous on you OP, and you have beautiful lips Envy

I think it's lovely on you as well.
