Hair disaster

I asked my hairdresser to cut choppy layers into largely one length long hair. I said to her i didn't want it too shaped at the front as it tended to go wispy but to have more blunt chinky layers. Maybe I didn't explain myself right. My hair is naturally poker straight. She curled it in the shop so it looked great but now that I have blow dried it myself it just looks like it's has been gone at with a hacksaw. Totally uneven and just looks a mess. I am gutted as it means i am going to have to spend ages curling it every day to hide the mess.
I don't know how to explain what I want to a hairdresser. I just want layer at the front to give it some shape but want them to sit nicely when my hair is straight. Do I go back? I don't really want any more taking off. It's going to take ages to grow it out. Maybe I should just give in and have my hair all one length.

*chunky!!

Dextyboo Fri 18-Mar-16 12:15:17

do you have a pic? i am thinking if you hold one inch wide sections of the hair in your hand and using a sharp pair of hairdressing style scissors cut into it so the scissors are at the same angle as the hair this will soften it a little bit. Youtube thinning out hair, that might show when i mean better than i am explaining it.

Hard to photograph but you get the idea.

I'd go back. Your hair looks split and hacked.

Not a professional looking cut at all.

go back that has been hacked badly

Indecisivejo Fri 18-Mar-16 19:15:57

Omg definitely go back! In the nicest possible way that's awful and needs to be sorted out! Don't let same person near u though ask for the manager! I genuinely cannot believe a professional has done that!

MargotLovedTom Fri 18-Mar-16 19:18:37

That's terrible. I know you said your hair is poker straight but have you used straighteners on it as it looks really fried?

Imnotaslimjim Fri 18-Mar-16 19:23:00

Oh my, that is not good at all!! She hasn't blended the layers in. She's taken your request of "chunky" to the extreme. Go back to the same hairdressers and tell them you want it sorting.

Maybe go to another salon first & ask them to take a look, to give you some ideas of what to say?

Neveradullm0ment Fri 18-Mar-16 19:27:23

Go to another hairdresser

KimmySchmit Fri 18-Mar-16 19:31:53

That's not good, choppy layers should not look hacked - go back

TimeToMuskUp Fri 18-Mar-16 19:34:34

I think if someone has already hacked at your hair like that, don't give them chance to do it again. Complain, yes, ask for some kind of refund, yes, but letting them loose with the scissors again is daft.

TheFutureMrsB Fri 18-Mar-16 19:36:20

Again in the nicest possible way it does look terrible sad I think she heard chunky layers and just chopped away at it without any blending at all! Your ends look fried and damaged too which isn't right as you've just had it cut!

You need to go back or you could try softening them yourself. Have a look of YouTube there are some great tutorials for layering hair on there.

VinceNoirLovesHowardMoon Fri 18-Mar-16 19:36:52

Don't go back to her! Is there a senior stylist at this place? If not, book at a very reputable place for a fix but go to original salon for a refund

Betrayedbutsurvived Fri 18-Mar-16 19:40:10

Jeez, def do what everyone else said. Complain, but no way let the same person have another go.

Shesinfashion Fri 18-Mar-16 19:41:50

The condition looks really bad. Is it very dry and split? It appears to be. I'd go back and ask them to cut it into a jaw length blunt bob then condition the hell out of it.

Bodicea Fri 18-Mar-16 19:42:41

I haven't used straighteners on it. That was after I attempted to blow dry with a barely brush. The condition is ok. I think it's just the way the light is shining on it. She is the salon owner!!!! She is a decent colourist but always struggled what I want to get in a cut accross to her. Also I think she was rushing as she always over books herself and my highlights took ages. It's the salon in my village so feel a bit scared about going back and falling out with her. I have a ten week old baby and a two year old and was really hard to orgenize this appointment. Had to get my mum to come sit in the salon with me. Aargh. I think I am just going to go somewhere else for a cut in a months time. I really don't have the time or the courage to go back !!!! Even changing salons scares me a bit as I ealk past every day!

Bodicea Fri 18-Mar-16 19:43:16

Got sorry for typos. Typing and breastfeeding. Barrel brush!!!!

foolssilver Fri 18-Mar-16 19:46:41

Sorry again in the nicest possible way that looks awful. I can't believe a professional would let you leave like that.

I definitely would complain

Bodicea Fri 18-Mar-16 19:48:11

See it looked nice on the day!

MuchasSmoochas Fri 18-Mar-16 19:52:01

Oh there's nothing worse, it makes you feel awful. Please go back. I'm sure it will be fine and they can fix it. I had to do it once and it worked out well. Everybody makes mistakes at work! If she is snotty about it I would ask for a refund. But I'm sure it can be fixed, there's plenty of length.

foolssilver Fri 18-Mar-16 19:58:23

You could try an Aurora band, it might give the same look as when she curled it.

MargotLovedTom Fri 18-Mar-16 20:07:08

You just have to say to her you can't manage it, and she needs to soften the layers by chipping into them without taking any length off. They're far too blunt.

Have you tried drying it by twisting your hair round the brush while holding it vertically, rather than horizontally?

Bodicea Fri 18-Mar-16 20:31:15

Will try that. And try and muster up the courage!
