Hair - to dye or not but to dye?

I have made an appointment for tonight to have my hair coloured n some way but am having major second thoughts. The main reasons are:

*I have no idea what I am talking about so fear I will end up with something ridiculous (I am still scared from an awful experience 10 years ago)

*despite being in my early 40's, I am very lucky and have no grey hairs so why start doing it now when there will be an actual need soon enough

*my hair is in great condition so am I going to ruin it

*my hair is a lovely darkish brown colour with subtle natural highlights in already

However, I am bored with my hair, I like my hairdresser and do trust her.

What do I do?? Thinking subtle caramel highlights/balayage type thing...

Leave it alone and buy shoes.

Get it done! What have you got to lose? Unless you are bleaching it you won't damage it at all. If you don't like it you can always just colour it again. I've had my hair every colour though so I am biased!

You always damage your hair if you dye it and striping it out can be problematic because the peroxide used to penetrate the hair shaft lightens the hair. Even with semis

Once you start it's an expensive treadmill. Have a restyle instead.

At least with balayage it's mostly the ends being lightened, so you're not as committed to regular re-colouring.
