So refreshing to only have three changes of clothes!

So.. temporarily living away from home as we had some work done to the house which means we have to move out with the toddler around!
I spent so long clearing the house I sort of "forgot" about packing any clothes for myself, and I don;t think I appreciated it would be quite as long as it is for plaster to properly dry!
Anyhow, back to the point.
I have 2 work dresses, 1 pair of jeans and 2 jumpers (a hoody and a "nice" thin wool jumper). and of course associated underwear.
Luckily the weather is pretty constant at the moment (cold, rainy, wet or average).

How refreshing though to now not have any worry about what to wear.
Depending on the event I am either
casual (nice jumper and jeans) ,
very casual (hoody and jeans)
at work (one of the dresses)...

Also means a LOT less washing / ironing.. I just wash/dry/iron what I need on the days not in use..
I am not sure how I will go back to having a full wardrobe!!!

At the moment I'm 2 weeks in.. and not yet bored of the clothes...
i really suggest you try it for a couple of weeks!!

I've read that mark Zuckerberg only has a few different outfits. I love the idea. I've reduced to a capsule wardrobe but feel that I need to go further with it. It's already much easier to get dressed

Finally-i think he has lots of copies of the same outfit though. That I can get on board with. Just two work outfits wouldn't work for me and my lifestyle, that's all.

Yeah, I tend to agree that 2 is very limiting.. and I think i may get bored..
but thinking I may just bring things back VERY slowly.. (and I only work 4 days a week and start early so less decisions the better)...

but really how many do we need...

I had a very limited maternity wardrobe and quite liked it. Easy to choose what to wear and it all went together. Failed to reduce actual clothes though once dc born.

I work as a TA in a school, and actually wear pretty much the same outfit (I support a child with physical needs, so has to be practical) every day. For cold days it's black cotton slim fit trousers, navy or grey top and cardigan and boots, in the summer it's knee length trousers, short sleeve v neck t shirt. Makes life much easier. My weekends are much more complex!

I wouldn't save on washing though - I wear stuff, I wash it. I can only wear one outfit at a time. I have a hard time with 3 outfits though....I'm usually bored of my holiday wardrobe after 2 weeks and that's planning 8-9 outfits.

I'm lucky if what I wear makes it to teatime without getting trashed. Usually by a sticky handed child, but I spilt sauce down a top within an hour of putting it on, earlier

Nice to have a bit more choice, from my POV. It's not like I really devote a lot of time to worrying about what to wear, anyhow.

I'm also baffled by how having fewer outfits reduces washing.

Surely, if you only wash things when they're dirty, you're only doing the same volume of washing, each week.

If, for the sake of simplicity, two people get through an outfit a day, that's 14 outfits to wash, whether it comes from a pool of 3 outfits each or 7. If anything, having 7 outfits each enables you to go longer between having to do laundry, which means fewer loads to do, as it's not like you'll end up with no clothes to wear on Thursday if you don't want to or have time to do laundry on Tuesday or Wednesday.

I have adopted a new uniform of sorts.
I'm eliminating pattern and just buying plain items in colours and simple cuts I love.
An Autumn/winter palette and a Soring/Summer palette. With easy trans seasonal links between the both.
It's way more than 3 outfits but very simple.
It is liberating, I love it.

I only work three days, and if I can get away with it I wear the same trousers every day. I love that idea candy. I used to do the nautical colours in Summer, red and blue with a hint of white. It has become more muddled recently.

The less washing is about not having a big pile of ironing or lots of clothes hanging drying all at once.
Maybe it just makes me more focussed to get it done and it doesn't pile up (or get the chance too!).

luckily, (so far) DD is being kind and not smearing food / being sick on me etc.. Although I am sure this will come.. and of course on the day when I need to do the washing to have something new.

It won't reduce washing though because you be rushing it through the machine to wear it again in just over 24hrs. I do laundry every day but wouldn't want that pressure with work clothes.

I have 4 black work dresses, 2 pairs of boots and a few changes of jewellery. Look pretty much the same every day and it's brilliant - saves loads of time and headspace.

TOO TRUE.. it won't reduce it, but will give me less of a pile of things to process.. (instead lots of small piles!) .
I'm definitely veering towards dresses for work too. Although my staple wardrobe used to be black trousers + top each day..

I think Einstein used to have lots of the same outfit, he didn't want to waste his time thinking about what to wear, he had more important things to think about.

We inherited an 8kg washing machine when we bought this house. We actually need MORE clothes so we can fill the machine and do less washing!
We only wash once a week now.
