How I want to dress now?

Am 47, 2 DC under 11, divorced and have, for the millionth time, cleared out my wardrobe.

I have taken hundreds of clothes, books, etc, etc down to the charity shop and have finally removed the majority of clothes I didn't wear. I am now down to some jeans, jumpers and boots which is fine as it is winter but I don't know what I want to wear b.ecause I am so bored with myself.

I used to be a bit floaty but feel a bit overdressed, however, I am bored to the back teeth with jeans, jumper and boots (I do have a number of boots but can't wear any healed boots due to leg injury, so grey or black biker boots, long tan boots). Easier in the summer (maxi dress or vest/skinnies/sheer shirt/sandals) but I do feel the cold so wear "practical" clothes.

Am 5'8", size 12/14, have been wearing vests as they are warm and haven't worn a bra in I don't remember, dark hair, green eyes and a streaky tan atm (shoddy application by me).

I do wear hats - Trilbyish designs because a bobble hat just does not suit. I have a black, grey and Burgundy ones.

I can show my lower legs comfortably in the winter as I can wear thick tights tocover the scars but not the shape. So prefer longer skirts but do show legs in summer but in a more "private" way.

Any helpful websites or help. Please Thanks and Grin

  • Should add I buy most of most if my clothes in charity shops and try to buy decent stuff i.e. cotton, cashmere, wool etc.

    Thanks

I know you say you are fed up of jeans but could you not wear them.and think more about your top half being different. How much are you paying for your charity clothes ? I buy my jeans from Primark, just recently bought black ones which look great if not washed too much. I think I must be a similar build to you. I like the manataray selection in Debenhams can be expensive but then they have very good sales. I got a Debenhams store card and they keep sending me £5 vouchers 3 since joining in November. Short cardigans ? Maybe take yourself off for the day to the shops to get some ideas ?

First thing - get a properly fitting bra. Have a look at the bra intervention threads.

Thank you. I will have a look at bra threads but, oh, the vests are so comfortable!

I bought a stripey navy and white dress a while ago thinking that might go. Been at the bottom of the wardrobe. I put it on today and I felt quite nice. DD said it was too short. What on earth does she know :).

I do know the dress, and me, would look better with a bra.

Pinterest is good for deciding what looks you like.

Maybe have a look at some comfy but stylish dresses to wear with tights and boots? There are some lovely sweater dresses around at the moment. Wear them as short as you like if you've got good legs! Smile I am a similar size/age and like you can't wear heels so wear mainly dresses with boots. I pimp them up a bit with nice laces and keep them polished which is a subtle way to feel glam without dressing up.
