I have had a massive realisation, well 2 actually...

At the ripe of age of 45 I have realised that:

1 - The reason I look rubbish in skirts is because I always wear them with knee boots. My lower legs are one of my best features - I have fairly chunky calves but very dainty ankles. This is all disguised by boots, and my legs just look tree trunky. I wore a usual outfit today, but with navy semi-opaque tights and navy brigues. Looked loads better!

2- satiny underwear makes your clothes sit better and move more easily that cotton underwear.

M&S slips, under a dress, helps to keep the lines cleaner.

Ottilia - absolutely! I always wear one.

That's a good idea. Why don't I know this stuff?

I don't know OP, maybe you're just naturally slinky.

I'm definitely not naturally slinky!

Oh I'm the same with boots, I realised a couple of years ago. Also due to the shapely calves, I look much better in just above the knee than just below.

Yes, that too!

You're right about the boots and the above the knee length, I can't wear brogues though, I need a bit of heel.

So, slips under dresses. I have 2, but hardly wear them because they ride up under fitted skirts so I get a nice slip role round my hips, and ride up over my boobs so I get a bunch of material up there too. I find camis work better but then don't stop jersey skirts clinging to tights. Tips anyone?

My mum was obsessed with making me wear slips under dresses when I was younger, I had no idea why until recently. Lots of dresses are unlined, a satiny slip makes all the difference. turns into win mother, goes off to put on comfy slacks

I can't get to grip with camis.
Now they ride up all the time.

I only wear slips under dresses, haven't tried with a proper fitted skirt.
I'm not sure I actually own a real fitted skirt.

A safety pin in the hem is supposed to help with static.

Static Guard... the business... get your friends to send it/bring it home from the US. |Everyone should own a can (two actually, you need one at home and another at work). Smells awful, but works.

Hairspray is good for getting rid of static on clothes

Doesn't it make clothes sticky?

Do you mean full length slips? I love silky camis and hadn't thought about a slip. Please could someone link to the M&S ones?

This seems to be closest to what I have.

Very simple, silky, not tight.
I've had mine for years and years though.

This doesnt' surprise most people but you always have posters here looking for white bras - for teenagers to wear under school shirts, for example.
If you don't want the bra to show through your shirt, you don't need the bra to match the shirt colour, but your skin colour. Same applies to trousers.

I have had a massive realisation, well 2 actually...

I'm sure I read that a red bra shows up less under a white shirt than a white bra.

Thank you Ottilia. Looks fine. Just need to find out about the lengths. Website says 3 lengths available but only 29" comes up as an option. I'll go and find the tape measure!

I would get the nude/dark one, as suggested above.

White does show.
