Dungarees

I'm nearly 40. But I love these beyond belief. Can I? Are they worth selling all previous possessions for? (I cannot for the life of me find anything anywhere near as nice for less money).

I am 36 and I love my dungarees! I tend to go for straight leg ones and roll them up as I'm tall and wide leg ones flap a bit!

You can totally wear them. You do have to brazen it out a bit though - wear them with confidence!

Have you tried them on? The back view of the (5'11, size 8) model is not very flattering... For that price of expect it to have magic bum-shrinking powers.

But I fight a losing battle with my bum, so could be bum sensitive. Makes note to change username to BumSensitive

Of course you can! I saw a shop assistant in New Look on Saturday wearing a skinny-cut pair. They looked great and I looked for them in my size. Which they didn't have! But would have bought them if they did. and I am older than you!

IHeart, I am delighted to hear this! I do also like slouchy looking ones which I could roll up, but not sure I could pull off straight leg like you clearly do.

Marzi, no I haven't tried them on but I quite like the look of the back. I tend to err on the side of clothes which make my bum look bigger rather than smaller. Not because it's especially small, but because I'm always coveting a Jo-Lo...

In that case, go for it! The 70s look is so cool and I think dungarees will be round for ages because they've not gone totally mainstream (like say bootleg jeans, then skinnies). You'll probably need to get a new bag too, maybe a satchel... And shoes...

I'm loving the dungaree look right now.

But my G cub boobs like freaking horrendous in "bib" fronts.

They are really nice. Def worth trying on. I have posted on another thread about this a while ago, but after seeing a woman who I guess was in her 40s looking hot in them and asking her where they were from, I got a pair from Zara with a similar leg but in a lighter colour here. I think the dark colour is lovely. I also got another pair which are more of a true flare by Dittos like this. I am big of bum and thigh. I found the wide legged Zara pair looked better with a heel so am waiting until the spring/summer to wear with a wedge shoe. I would have liked a straight pair to wear with trainers and maybe roll up, but with my shape and at my age (ahem, shall we say 40s and leave it at that) I'm not sure I would have got away with it and would have strayed into Andy Pandy mutton territory.

My daughter got these last year.

I thought they'd look a bit clownish but they don't, they look fantastic.

She Nick's loads of my stuff but doesnt like it if I borrow anything of hers, so I am hoping to get myself something similar for summer this year.

mrslebon, yes all similar ones seem pricey.

Space, I've seen some bespoke "landgirl" style dungarees (mainly on Etsy/Pinterest/sewing websites) with more allowance for curves.

The Dittos ones are identical to some I had in the 70's. I would love some more, DH has a it of a thing about dungarees ( even my old decorating ones)

MyAutumnAlmanac, love those land girl dungarees. I wish I could sew, or find a reasonably priced tailor. I sometimes see women going for the full on 50s look, including overalls or dungarees, red lippie and a victory roll and they look fab.
ExConstance, the Ditto dungarees (in fact all Dittos) are hard to track down now, but M&S have just put out some flared dungarees you might want to have a look at here. I'm not sure how they would actually look on, as they haven't styled them that well IMO.
Lastly, the School run style blog writer seems to like her dungarees and has some nice photos. Not for me as I prefer the wide leg/flared/land girl look, but really nice if you're into skinny or straight cut.

In any case, I bought them and have had them for 2 weeks.
I have hardly taken them off. I feel brilliant. Surprisingly, DH also thinks they're great.

Highly recommended! (for those who don't mind being called "Super Mario" at the school gates ).

And here's an update on my comment on your update. Finally got to doing a bit of shopping on my own at the weekend. Tried on the New Look skinny ones (Here) and thought they looked OK. Was momentarily put off by two 16 year olds in the next cubicle also trying them on, but bought them anyway.

Wore them with a skinny breton underneath later and after an initial DH was complimentary.

I have the Whistles ones from last year in black and wore them absolutely loads, but I liked that link to the New Look skinny ones so much itgoeswithoutsaying that I dashed in at lunchtime. I actually bought them in blue and black!

So glad I found this thread! Most of the other dungaree threads on MN are less than complimentary
I dragged DH round loads of shops yesterday and struggled find any. The primark ones were clearly designed for people without actual torsos and others were ready holed, something I don't need help with!
