Has anyone had any accidents with their Babyliss Big Hair dryer?

I was using it today and my hair got trapped in it, OMG I thought it was going to rip my hair out! Basically it was curling my hair ( top right hand button) and my hair got caught in it. Really scary and I panicked and eventually managed to switch the thing off but thought it was going to pull my hair out by the roots! Guess you have to be careful using that function but it has scared me a bit. Anyone else had problems or any tips on how to use it safely?

Me! I've got short bits behind my ears that were ripped out the first time I used it 2 Christmases ago.

It's deep in a drawer now...my short bits stick out from under my hair sometimes

If your hair gets stuck just press the opposite button and it reverses.

Yes, as soon as you stop pressing the bottom it stops rotating. Then press the other way, and it reverses.

It can only pull your hair out if you refuse to stop pressing the rotate button!!

Funny you should post this today. My Big Hair arrived yesterday. On first use similar happened to me, and I've burnt my skin, just around the outside of my eyebrow. I've been putting Aloe Vera gel (kept in the fridge) on it and it looks/feels better today. I continued using it and have to say I love the results. I think it must have been made for hair like mine; I've never got the back, in particular, so smooth. My mishap was down to user error and inexperience and, I hope, won't happen again!

I don't use it much. Its not great (although my hair is past my waist and very thick and so I think it's too heavy for it.)

I think my issue is that my hair is a thick and bastardly long - I can't roll up my hair from the bottom of it to the top without it all 'spreading' out and getting stuck and trapped at the end of the roller, and then causing a painful tangled mess.

I hate the thing. If I was better and had more patience using it, I'm sure it'd be fantastic. But I'm not and don't.

I suspect its good for fine mid length hair. Its not good on very long thick hair IMO.

Trinity are you sectioning your hair? I dry mine first - rough dry with a hairdryer and then BBH it.

I have fairly long thick hair and absolutely love my BBH. I don't rough dry it at all, but I do section it/work round in layers. The hottest setting is very hot, I tend not to use that one much. The types of problems most people are describing here could be overcome by practising and using it correctly. It's honestly been one of my best buys.

Just had a look at the instructions - no where does it say it's for curling? Lift and shine.

I love mine! I find that it is best when my hair is not too long though - small sections is key!

unimaginative the rotating action does effectively wrap the hair around the brush, but I would say it's more for a professional blow-dry effect rather than for curling - so yes, volume and shine. The curling wand (on dry hair) is better for curling (and much easier and quicker to use than the much more expensive Babyliss Curl Secret)

The rotate is so it acts like a brush is the salon which is effectively spun to create lift and movement.

It's doesn't rotate for wrapping hair round as PP said to do it end to roots.

You need a big barrel tong for that.

Maybe that is why the OP is having difficulty because the hair should be pulled through it not wrapped

No, you're not meant to wrap your hair around it, from root to end; Trinity - maybe thats why you're having problems.

Unimagintive is right - the rotate is purely so that you can keep brushing the same section of hair as it dries/styles. You shouldn't really be getting near the root, in all honesty.

This probably makes it sound trickier than it actually is - it's very simple, I do it one-handed and I'm the most cack-handed hair-related person out there.

I always brush through it, and let it roll up towards the roots, wrapping the hair in the process. I hold it for a few moments, then brush through while rotating at the same time, a bit like you're describing unimaginative and dowager. I get great results, and no tangle incidents.

How do you dry the roots if you're not going near them? It's meant to dry and style at the same time... I don't have it touching on my head (that would burn...) but I do have it close enough to the roots to dry all my hair.

Maybe I've been using it wrong, but it's been working. Can't believe I spent so many years trying to tame my hair with GHDs when all I needed was a BBH!

Root to end like a brush and hairdryer not end to root and no wrapping!

Mine sometimes pulls, i just use the reverse button immediately.

I use mine right to the roots, upwards to creat volume as the hairdresser would with a big round brush.

One of my best ever purchases, it has changed my hair life!

Snap, amitha. Sounds like we do the same, I basically use mine in the way my hairdresser does with her barrel brush. :-)
