Boot help please! Hudson Horrigans are a no no

What do I wear with straight leg jeans (or possibly skinny but I don't think my pear shape suits them) that isn't trainers/ballet pumps - I've a little bit more substantial.

I thought Hudson Horrigan boots were going to do it but they look clumpy and weird on my feet trotters so will be going back (bought from Rubbersole - v quick delivery)

I need flattish or low heel as have a wild 2 year old to chase. Are desert boots still about? Or should I be looking at Chelsea boots??
