Last month (I think?) a poster started a thread asking for advice on how to tackle skin affected with hormonal acne.
I lurked to steal some ideas for my own flare ups, and while I appreciate it is early days at the moment, my skin in now in the best condition it has been in for years!!
My acne could be a lot worse, but it has caused me a lot of problems over the years. I have dry, fairly sensitive skin (which is problematic in itself), and every month I get a facial flare up of nasty pimples across my cheeks that turn my skin angry, red, and bumpy. Nothing seemed to fix it, and trying to cover with foundation was a nightmare. I've been on various contraceptive pills (including dianette) and they either made no difference or made it worse. I've tried spot treatments, antibiotics, oil cleansing, toning, the lot, and had very little success so had just given up and decided to live with it.
A few posters mentioned Panoxyl and I managed to find some online. Since it was cheap I thought I might as well give it a whirl, and blimey!! I put a little bit on overnight and in two days the angry, never-ending pimples had shrunk and the redness had subsided. It's the first time anything has had such a noticeable effect so quickly.
I also bought a huge tub of Cetaphil mosturising cream (not the lotion) and it's the first time my skin has been smooth and hydrated without me having to apply something every few hours! I also have the occasional issue with dehydrated skin so upped my water intake which had helped a little, but until I started using this my skin would still be flaky and rough to the touch even after using moisturiser or oil. But a thin application of Cetaphil before bed leaves my skin super silky, even when I take my make up off after a full day.
Now I'm just waiting for the acne marks to fade (will a glycolic peel help with that?) but even if this takes a while I'm thrilled with the condition my skin is in regardless, and it only cost me around £14 for a supply of products that will last me for months. Huzzah!!
Basically this post is a huge THANK YOU to anyone that posted on that thread. Even if the results are short lived, you gave me great skin over the Christmas period, which of course means I looked lurrrrvely in all my photos and I didn't even need to give up dairy . To OP from that thread, thank you for starting it and asking for help! I hope that some of the advice that posters gave you has worked for you too.
