Last month (I think?) a poster started a thread asking for advice on how to tackle skin affected with hormonal acne.

I lurked to steal some ideas for my own flare ups, and while I appreciate it is early days at the moment, my skin in now in the best condition it has been in for years!!

My acne could be a lot worse, but it has caused me a lot of problems over the years. I have dry, fairly sensitive skin (which is problematic in itself), and every month I get a facial flare up of nasty pimples across my cheeks that turn my skin angry, red, and bumpy. Nothing seemed to fix it, and trying to cover with foundation was a nightmare. I've been on various contraceptive pills (including dianette) and they either made no difference or made it worse. I've tried spot treatments, antibiotics, oil cleansing, toning, the lot, and had very little success so had just given up and decided to live with it.

A few posters mentioned Panoxyl and I managed to find some online. Since it was cheap I thought I might as well give it a whirl, and blimey!! I put a little bit on overnight and in two days the angry, never-ending pimples had shrunk and the redness had subsided. It's the first time anything has had such a noticeable effect so quickly.

I also bought a huge tub of Cetaphil mosturising cream (not the lotion) and it's the first time my skin has been smooth and hydrated without me having to apply something every few hours! I also have the occasional issue with dehydrated skin so upped my water intake which had helped a little, but until I started using this my skin would still be flaky and rough to the touch even after using moisturiser or oil. But a thin application of Cetaphil before bed leaves my skin super silky, even when I take my make up off after a full day.

Now I'm just waiting for the acne marks to fade (will a glycolic peel help with that?) but even if this takes a while I'm thrilled with the condition my skin is in regardless, and it only cost me around £14 for a supply of products that will last me for months. Huzzah!!

Basically this post is a huge THANK YOU to anyone that posted on that thread. Even if the results are short lived, you gave me great skin over the Christmas period, which of course means I looked lurrrrvely in all my photos and I didn't even need to give up dairy . To OP from that thread, thank you for starting it and asking for help! I hope that some of the advice that posters gave you has worked for you too.

If you keep up with your current regime there's no reason to suppose that the results will be short-lived Smile

In keeping with not breaking the bank, this gylcolic peel has good reviews: //www.superdrug.com/Skincare-Offers/Superdrug-Naturally-Radiant-Glycolic-Overnight-Peel-30ml/p/953857#.Vo5_hU_h36M

I use this every 3 days or so: //www.superdrug.com/Skin/Face/Serums/B-Revealed-Glycolic-Cleanser-125ml/p/268000#.Vo5-Y0_h36M As with the peel (above) a little goes a long way. Leave it on for a few minutes while you brush your teeth or whatever and take it off with the supplied muslin cloth rinsed through and wrung out in hot water. It's currently on a 2 for the price of one offer which is a bargain. Everyone I've recommended this product to loves it!

I should have added that I also have dry and fairly sensitive skin which, while it's not prone to acne, can develop flaky patches particularly during the winter months but the B Revealed glycolic cleanser keeps this under control.

I would give the acid toning a go again to fade the scars and blemishes. I use Nip and Fab glycolic fix pads in the morning and Stridex salicylic in the evening and my skin is so much more even and bright.

Having good skin is SUCH a confidence boost, I feel your joy.

That could have been my thread? STILL haven't got round to buying Cetaphil or panoxyl (tried but Boots didn't have it) but after reading this I am DEFINITELY getting them tomorrow, by hook or by crook!

Thanks goddess and Sandra I'll definitely take a look at those. I've heard good things about Nip + Fab but I'll have a google around the Superdrug ones too and figure out which I think will be best for my skin

Quite possibly Bendy. The panoxyl was about £6/7 with delivery from Chemist Direct or (some site along those lines). Cetaphil came from Amazon because I was doing some last minute Christmas shopping on there and it was convenient, but you should be able to find it elsewhere too.

Was it my thread? I've had my spottiness since August.
My panoxyl arrived today so hoping for ace results too, now :)

I've just taken a look and Bendy was the Op 2littlemonkeys, but looks like you got the same advice!

I hope the panoxyl works for you as well as it has done for me. I'm now terrified they're going to take it off the market again! Fingers crossed for you Smile
