Everyday eye make up for the over 40s

I wear mascara every day as standard (brown, as I'm fairly pale and have mousy hair with blonde highlights). I used to wear eye shadow but I now find myself initially looking like a kid who's applied their mum's make up on and then towards the end of the day, like I've been punched.

So after not wearing eye shadow for a few years now, I feel like I'd like to try again. I really don't mind the price if it's good, long lasting and suitable for sensitive eyes. I would like to achieve an enhanced every day look for my eyes that will last all day and not look overly done. Oh, and I need to be able to apply it in less than 2 minutes!! Grin. Any product recommendations please?

I found using a damp slanted eyeliner brush to apply shadow makes it really neat and sharper.
I am a cack handed lefty and the line is great and can be smudged with a finger if not so neat.
Clinique "olive in my martini" is a great colour, but I always apply damp, that is my thing - it just sticks so well and makes eyes stand out without being too dramatic.

Hi Kennington, I used to do that but I find that it simply converts eyeshadow into eyeliner, thus making the look harsher than what I'm looking for. That shade of eyeshadow looks lovely and like it would suit me though. Is it long wearing?

Yes it is long wearing - particularly if applied damp. I don't normally use a primer unless it is summer.
It is mid brown with gold and khaki flecks in it.

Google "you tube how to apply neutral eye shadow"

Hundreds of tutorials to show you.

I use Bobbi Brown cream eyeshadows and find they last all day. There's loads of shades so perhaps you would need to visit the counter to find one that suits you. Very easy to apply-i use a brush (as opposed to a finger). Also I'm sure I read somewhere that over 40s should stick to matt eyeshadow although I don't always follow this advice.

I just turned 40 and use a MAC paint pot (cream eyeshadow) in painterly which is a nude colour. If I want something darker I use Maybelline cream eyeshadow in creamy beige. Then I tightline base of upper lashes with dark brown pencil and put mascara on. If I have more time I add a very thin line with a liquid eyeliner pen, also dark brown (collection). I have never been able to blend lots of different powder eyeshadow colours.

If I want a really neutral look I just use foundation over my eyelids (Laura Geller balance and brighten usually) then eyeliner and mascara

Try this
It's my favourite thing in the whole world and a failsafe.
Pink over the eyelid, purple (it's actually gray) in the corners, in lieu of eyeliner. It's beautiful and so so easy!
