J Crew rip off!

Just wanted to look up some J Crew shoes I'd seen in the states… slightly Shock at the price ($225… £225) so checked the hat I bought for $30 so I guess around £20 (usual story of priced at $60, massive discount, coupon bla bla that is always in operation)… £60 here! Unbelievable! Do people here shop from J Crew or wait for sale or get people to get it for them in the states or what? There is actually quite a lot of stuff I'd like right now, but no way at those price conversions.

I buy it sometimes but only ever in sale or with a 30 % off voucher

I only buy their stuff when I am in the US. A lot of the discounted stuff will also find its way on eBay, so be patient. Quality is a bit iffy atm, definitely not worth the markup. I understood the company is financially troubled. I love to browse there but rarely buy anything. I find that I can often find similar items in H&M and other retailers for a fraction of the price, and the quality is more or less the same.

Yes I got caught out in NYC last month so bought a gorgeous scarf $60 and three pairs of socks at $15 each. The scarf was £65 in the shop here and they don't seem to sell socks. I agree it's a total rip off. I was hard pushed to find a large one in NYC so I went to the small one by 9/11. There was nothing much more in it. The thin jumpers everyone raves about are dry clean only. I washed mine and it's the size of a five year old now.

I buy it from outlets in the states or on eBay - their cashmere mix jumpers are really good

I have quite a lot of their stuff, but it was all either bought in the US, from their US site before they set up UK operations (and prices), or in the sale from the UK site. Love their things but they need to sort the prices out. They should have started off with lower prices in the first place though.

The jewellery in particular is ridiculous, like £100 for a necklace, I got the same one in a J Crew Factory store in the US for under £20. It's better quality than Accessorize, but not by much.

I think only Laura Fantacci shops there at full price but she probably gets given the stuff.

I am/was a JCrew fan but only shopped there with a code but since they've stopped doing free returns they've lost my business. The Tippi jumpers I'm fine with as I know my size but their vanity sizing is crazy so I'm not prepared to risk ordering stuff now and paying to return it. I think they've shot themselves in the foot there.

Bring back free returns!

Yes everyone saying the same thing... I used to be in the states several times a year pre kids... Have tons of stuff from there although agree sizing and shape quite strange. I just find it so weird that it's such a mid range (nice mid-range, but mid-range) in U.S. but pitched as high fashion here with prices to match. Ah well, at least I got my lovely hat!

Sorry, meant to say that's why I'd never bought from UK as expected there to be SOME mark up, but really outraged at how badly they want to rip off UK consumers! Such a shame as I'd buy so much if it was even a little bit more expensive (I mean gap/ banana republic not as cheap as there, but still reasonable)

is there still an option to return free of charge to one of their uk stores kitty hello? You're right it really puts me off ordering from the online site ..

Those Tippi jumpers do not wash well at all. The store is London is not appealing I've been in a few times and there's only ever about three people in it.
