Will the personal shopper at John Lewis be pissed off if I do this?

Only buy may be one dress at our appointment today? I have lost a lot of weight and need help getting some dresses. Only I don't want to spend a fortune today when most things will be in the sale in less than 2 weeks time?

I ordered some dresses from phase 8 but I looked like a stick with massive norks. Awful.

They might be but that is tough. If you are that bothered buy them then buy in the sale and return today's stuff.

I doubt it. I'm sure sometimes people don't buy anything.

They won't mind. Go you for the weight loss! flowers

Surely they would prefer you to buy one dress you truly love and that fits properly. I wouldn't worry about it at all.

Thank you all. This is reassuring. I have never been able to wear dresses before. I'd like something nice for work!

The individual personal shopper won't mind.

But the management does look into the cost effectiveness of the service, and at the moment there are three levels and only one is charged for (redeemable against purchases). Other stores have considerably higher charges.

I hope you're using either the paid-for service, or the 'express' (where they really won't mind one purchase only, as it's even advertised that way), not the 2 hour style experience (currently free, but most vulnerable).

I have never used this service, but, from reading on MN, I understand there is really no pressure to buy.

John Lewis's strategy seems to be more that people have a warm feeling towards the brand, and therefore remain quite loyal to it, and I think the personal shopper service is part of that.

I doubt you'll get a hard sell, and feel guilty if you don't buy.

It's the express service I am using. It lasts an hour.

You'll be absolutely fine with that one, and I hope they help you find a lovely dress now, plus lots of ideas for future sales shopping.

Thanks Edith. I hope I find a style that suits me!

NOt at all! I use this service all the time been this week and just got one dress for an event, although it was an expensive one. Tell her at the start you are looking for one dress and what your budget is. I must have tried on 30 dresses before found the right one. It is an excellent service and whenever I need clothes I use it I tend to go to the same person as she knows me a bit now. It's so much better than going in and out of a changing room, they do all the running round, they know the stock etc.

My dd (aged 18) booked the 2 hour one, (don't think she realised there were shorter ones available) with a budget of only £150, in order to find a dress for various winter parties/balls. This was with her first pay packet. She's always hated shopping so thought this would be the least painful way to do it. There was absolutely no pressure to buy, but she could have bought 10 dresses they all looked so good, and in the event she took two, plus a bra.

It was a wonderful experience, non of that thinking you'll look fantastic in a dress then finding when you try it on you look like Mrs Brown. I've told loads of people about it, and plan to use it myself for a wedding next year, so I hope it continues.

mouldycheesefan Sat 12-Dec-15 08:24:15

I always use the express.

mouldycheesefan Sat 12-Dec-15 08:25:26

Oh my god I hope they don't stop it I get all my clothes via this!

In my experience the personal shoppers at JL are so good at picking and styling outfits I end up buying more than I planned. If you do feel awkward or uncertain about things it can't hurt to buy them , take them home to try at your leisure and then return them if ultimately they aren't right or you can't justify the expense

Have fun- I hope you get something/s amazing!
