Very bright, very temporary hair colour for very dark hair?

DD wants to play with hair colour a bit

Odd highlights or stripes of colour

What is best to use, my last experience of spray in colour was electric blue in about 1984 & it took forever to wash out - have temporary colours come on a bit recently?

Have a look at hair chalks, I haven't tried them so can't reccomend a specific one but they may be the sort of thing you're after.

Thanks- I'll look

Can anyone reccomend a brand?

I've suggested clip in hair extensions but she isn't keen as she doesn't think they will match her hair texture

If it's bright she wants she will have to bleach I'm afraid. My hair is naturally almost black and colour makes no difference whatsoever in it's unchanged state. I used clip in extensions for my wedding but I had straightened hair so they worked.

It's currently violet, teal and cerise. When I want to go back to looking natural I will bleach it again and stick a permanent dark dye on.

Fingers crossed she beleives you wink

I think there used to be a sort of coloured hair mascara - I'll see if I can find that

The coloured hair mascara won't show up on dark hair either. But, how about if she gets the lightest colour of real hair extensions, and dyes them whatever colour she wants? I used food colouring on my own hair once because I wanted red highlights! Cheaper than dye!

Maybe - she is very curly tho'

Agree: don't bother. Hair mascara, hair chalks...nothing temporary shows up on dark brown hair.

She could bleach and dye a section of hair that is usually covered by the rest of her hair, so it can only be seen when the top layer of hair is tied up?

Katymac Thu 10-Dec-15 07:35:28

OK I'll let her read the thread - but have you ever tried to convince a teenager of anything? I'm her mum - I know nothing grin!!

It's taken me this long to get her to love & tame her curls

I'm on the look out for curly extensions now I guess

HollyJollyDillydolly Thu 10-Dec-15 08:18:40

If you get real clip in hair streaks they can be curled soo that might be the way forward?
My dd has some bright red, blue and pink ones.

DS wanted electric blue hair this summer (he can do whatever he wants to it in the summer holidays). After much experimentation he had to bleach his hair and then apply colour. It looked amazing, but eventually faded and he now has grey/blonde streaks left.
Next year he wants a pattern - I made the mistake of telling him about my clubbing friend (when I was a teen) who had leopard print grade 2 hair that looked amazing.

If she needs curly extensions then

this place is worth a go. They have branches all over and they specialise in afro hair

Spidertracker Thu 10-Dec-15 09:02:38

Clip in extensions are the only way to go. I once bleached mine so I could get it pink. The bleach only took it to a dark auburn so I stupidly did it twice more, then put pink on, it looked great for about a week then my black roots started coming through and it looked awful, I tried to die it back to very dark brown it went an awful gingery colour then started breaking.

I got some very good hair extensions from Ali express for dd for just this reason . It was this seller

Katymac Thu 10-Dec-15 14:03:24

I may have convinced her - only time will tell

So brightly coloured curly clip on extensions - I'll look on those sites

Katymac Thu 10-Dec-15 16:50:20

How about these?

Katymac Sun 13-Dec-15 18:52:52

She has been out for the day with a group of girls with similar colouring

Apparently we are all wrong & it will be fine hmm

You are supposed to let them make mistakes, right?

Laststop Sun 13-Dec-15 18:56:25

Hair spray will show up just not as bright

Veterinari Sun 13-Dec-15 18:59:14

The superdrug coloured hairspray will work (it just coats, doesn't dye)
It just won't be so bright

Katymac Sat 19-Dec-15 21:54:05

She loves the blue spray

Success - thanks guys!
