Blue red lipstick

I am after a nice lipstick which won't make my teeth look yellow, I think it needs to be blue red? I have dark hair but quite fair skin, mid brown eyes. I suit black , red and jewel coloured clothes.
I bought a mac one last year but it's a bit to bricky-purpley. Expensive mistake. Wouldn't mind something mid range like LOreal , Revlon.

Really Red by Revlon is a brilliant blue red, one of the very few I can wear.

Talisin Sun 06-Dec-15 22:53:48

If you ever wish to go mad on the budget though, this one is amazing.

MAC ruby woo
Icon femme rouge Hourglass lipstick (someone got me it as a gift)
Revlon also

LoadsaBlusher Sun 06-Dec-15 23:31:56

Came on to say Ruby Woo too

rubyflipper Sun 06-Dec-15 23:35:03

All Fired Up by Mac is an amazing matte blue-red.

Loreal Blakes red

YesOfCourseAlways Mon 07-Dec-15 13:37:02

I was going to say Blake's red too, very good for the price

Mac Russian Red is blue toned and usually looks great with dark hair and pale skin.

GoApeShit Mon 07-Dec-15 13:52:03

MAC Russian Red. Much more blue-toned than Ruby Woo.

LettuceLaughton Mon 07-Dec-15 13:53:23

Ruby woo is indeed the holy grail if red lipstick. Too pricey for me for everyday wear. Rimmel Kate 111 kiss of life is a good dupe but although it's a matte it's nowhere near as matte as ruby woo, still very nice though.

MagicalHamSandwich Mon 07-Dec-15 13:55:19

Heavens! I came on here to say Ruby Woo by MAC, believe it or not ...

LettuceLaughton Mon 07-Dec-15 13:55:38

Yy Russian red is more blue but ruby woo suits more people.

GoApeShit Mon 07-Dec-15 14:40:44

Isn't it funny; my colouring suits Russian Red far better. I do love Ruby Woo though. And Mac lippies in general <fires up MAC website, primes credit card>

Whatsername24 Mon 07-Dec-15 15:37:57

Neither Ruby Woo or Russian Red suit me because of the blue tone, I do like Lady Danger though and Dangerous is a nice shade of red but I find it difficult to apply - it's a very dry matte (it's a Retro Matte) and drags, but using balm first means that it just slips off and looks patchy on application.

I spend far too much money in Mac.

LettuceLaughton Mon 07-Dec-15 15:48:21

The retro mattes get very hard when they're cold which makes them practically impossible to apply smoothly, IME. Is worth poping the tube in your bra a pocket for 20 minutes or half an hour if they're chilled.

katesmith25 Mon 07-Dec-15 15:53:56

Vibrant blue-based cherry reds contrast with pink undertones in fair skin to make lips pop. They also happen to make teeth look whiter. It's a youthful red shade, for sure

Whatsername24 Mon 07-Dec-15 18:58:02

Thanks for the tip Lettuce, I'll stick it in my bra in the morning and give it a try grin

keeponkeepinon Mon 07-Dec-15 20:20:56

I would love to be able to wear a red. I'm on the look out for a blue red too. I'm fair with pink undertones. I don't want to spend too much trying out at first, I am not sure I am bold enough to have the confidence to wear it. Plus I have quite fine lips and I wonder if it may look harsh on thinner lips.
Anyone know of a semi sheer that might fit the bill as a try out?

GrimDamnFanjo Tue 08-Dec-15 09:09:22

Keep try one of the redder lip butters by Revlon? I have Velvet Red and I had another one too.
For blue reds I too have Ruby Woo but the Rimmel Kate Moss 001 s a nice long lasting red.

Whatsername24 Tue 08-Dec-15 09:16:52

Lettuce that worked a treat! wink

Yes keepon, as grim said, the Revlon lip butters are worth looking at, and they also do various coloured balms (in a chunky crayon style) including one which is a lip stain. I have one of the ColorBurst Matte Balms and it lasts pretty well.

Thanks, does anyone else struggle to work out if its a blue toned red? That's why I need recommendations really, when I look at them in the shop they look scarily deep and I can't tell whether they are the right tone anyway! I'm going to look at those lip butters in boots, they usually have offers on. Thanks!

Whatsername24 Tue 08-Dec-15 12:51:38

I don't really struggle so much now. I'm quite good at judging colours - years of practice and learning from mistakes made wink

ProbablyMe Tue 08-Dec-15 12:56:52

Cherry Pop lip colour and primer by Clinique is good.

YesOfCourseAlways Tue 08-Dec-15 13:50:39

Keepon try the Revlon lacquer balm in Enticing
