Leggings/footless tights/ cotton tights which don't create a visible muffin top

Yes I know the muffin top is my fault and it's not really fair to blame it on the underwear, but I need something to wear with dresses and boots that doesn't create an extra roll around the middle.
I'm very sensitive to how clothing feels, particularly on my feet, and for that reason can't wear nylon tights all day, hence the need for either footless tights ( my first choice) leggings or cotton tights, but with waistband that is looser than normal. I have tried sizing up but am a 16/18 and 5'4" so don't want legs which are too long, or worse still, baggy around the knees, which is why I prefer footless tights to leggings.
Does anyone know of any brands which are lloser around the waist, or made in such a way that they don't dig in, leaving an unsightly bulge?
Don't know if other people suffer from this or whether I just need to tone up dramatically!

These aren't looser around the middle (quite the opposed actually) but I wear Maidenform Flexees leggings. They are high waisted and hold everything in very nicely around the stomach/hips area. I am a size 14-16 and have a big stomach and massive muffin top and they smooth me out to almost completely flat Shock They are incredibly comfortable too. I'm also 5ft 4 and the leg length is perfect. I bought mine from eBay for £10 (they are much more expensive from proper online shops). I would recommend them to anyone. Probably my best clothing purchase ever.

Try the uniqlo heat tech leggings. They're like a cross between leggings and footless tights.

Thanks very much, the Flexees sound great.
I've often wondered if the uniqlo heat tech range might make one too hot? Are they breathable fabric, Jelly?

I have found they answer is not the leggings - I have got some rather attractive slips (think underwear your nan would have) I wear them under the dress/over the waist of the tights/leggings and it give dresses a much smoother appearance

Nancy, can you recommend any slips? I have tried an M&S one but its fractionally too long, and threatens to show at the hem.

I think I got mine in bhs, I know they were hard to find, obviously not many people have embraced the granny underwear look!

I have the maidenform ones too and adore them

Ah, have checked out the maiden form ones, they are quite ££ , and am thinking that shapewear would hold everything below but would create ca bulge above.
I may try them in the long term but was thinking more about ordinary footless tights that come up big around the tummy area, that I can buy today. Near me there is Primary, New look, bhs, H&M, DP, and TK Maxx.
Has anyone tried those brands?

Delphinium they are designed as a thermal layer, so under trousers they are v warm. With a skirt they are as warm as thin leggings. They don't get sweaty though so must be breathable.

I have some high waisted footless tights by spanx which are brilliant. No muffin top and comfortable too. I got mine in tkmaxx.

Some of the m&s leggings have a wide waistband, so you don't get the line around your middle.

Thanks for all the suggestions. In desperation this morning bought a pair of superdrug 80 deniers: M/ L apparently fits up to a size 22, so I figured they'd be big around the waist. They are a perfect fit, with comfort waistband - if only they were footless I'd say 10/10!

Not sure how to link but look on you tube - Removing waist band of Black Milk leggings - no more muffin top!
