Help! DH wants to buy me a dress

This one:www.agentprovocateur.com/eu_en/zeniya-dress-black

Apart from the fact that it's ridiculously expensive and I'm not sure we have enough to get us through the end of the year.
He is raving about this dress and how we should dress up for out 10th wedding anniversary when we go to see a ballet. Then maybe once the DC are a bit older we could to to a New Year's Gala dinner. Surely this is not something that one should wear to an opera or gala dinner? I find it a little revealing and really do not think I would be comfortable wearing it out and about. He says it's the perfect, cheeky, stylish dress a class above any others he has seen.

Help me find something to counter-suggest. Please. I'm no good with fashion or dress sense or style. I have a couple of dresses already that have been in the cupboard for 10 + years, they might still fit. He's never seen me in any of them!

its beautiful, but its 2 and a half grand, and it also is a negligée rather than going out dress. I mean I can look at it and think wow, thats gorgeous, but I cant actually imagine an event it would look appropriate for.
Your dh does realise that the dresses on agent provocateur are almost all expensive sex-wear, yeah, even the description says its a slip.

Would he expect you to wear something from ann summers to go out? Agent provocateur is just a very expensive, up market version

I pointed that out, but he said, no look it's listed as an evening dress.

No way does that look like an evening dress!!! Does he want you to attract other mens attention?

That's an over priced night dress surely.

You can practically see her fanny!

Merrylegs · 03/12/2015 19:37

You can see her pants!!! Classy for the ballet...

Definetly one for the bedroom imo!

Your husband described a dress as cheeky?! LTB.

There are lots of nice dresses around and at a tiny fraction of the ridiculous price here.

I think Agent Provocateur is an underwear shop. That dress is most definitely expensive underwear.

Sorry if you are not but is this a 'joke' thread?

It is a fitted slip!

Pixie - I thought that too, but last time I asked such a question I was deleted for troll hunting! :)

Erm, and unless you are 5ft 10 and built like a whippet, it is going to look bloody awful.

CainInThePunting · 03/12/2015 19:45

That is not a dress for going out in...it's a sex outfit.

Report
iwantgin · 03/12/2015 19:46

No.

You could have a family holiday with that cash.

Loads of bargains on at the moment t in Debenham etc.

That's not a dress to leave the boudoir in.

I've seen this dress at Bicester village much cheaper but it is most definitely a bedroom only item!

Report
BooAvenue · 03/12/2015 19:47

Goodness me, certainly not suitable for the ballet!

Seeyounearertime · 03/12/2015 19:48

Inspired by the thread I went and looked around asos..... Funnily enough it didn't seem to suggest wearing sex wear to the ballet.... Unless I missed it?

Reminds me of that episode of friends when Rachel goes for dinner with her boyfriends parents wearing negligee Grin

Sorry op, I don't think that's for wearing outdoors.

I'm sorry but my first thought was that it looked like a trashy piece of lingerie you'd see flogged in the market stall on Eastenders - and when I scrolled to the price, my jaw actually dropped.

Did you read the description? Because they are saying it's underwear:
"This sinfully sultry ‘30s-inspired fitted slip is made..."

It is underwear. If you're going to spend 2,000 quid, do it on a dress you can wear in front of your mother. Or a coat. Or a handbag. Or anything else but underwear!

I would say it's a swingers or escort dress.
The type of dress where you want to show off your assets to shag someone.

He needs to get to specsavers. No way does that say it's an evening dress. It says it's a fitted slip. It says it's to seduce.
