boohoohoooo! fried my hair :(

I was growing out my colour and hair was really long and getting shiny and I was pleased. Then I had a mad mad moment ( I blame pmt and sara Jessica parker) and thought 'ooh, wouldn't it be nice to have a slight wave at the bottom'. Looked in boots at curling tongs, then happened upon home perm kit, gentle it said. For colour treated hair it said. I have fried my hair and I am to blame.
I cut about 2 inches of the worst crispy bits, and hacked a bit from the front.
So far I've done overnight coconut oil ( hair in two plaits encased in socks).
Kerastase repair conditioner.
Paul smith elastisier.
Redken anti snap leave in spray.

It still looks shit. I am just wearing it in two plaits as I can't bear to look at it.

Any new suggestions, short of the chop? Woe is meeeeeee etc.

Ugggghhhh, I did exactly the same thing this year :-(

I have tried every product, literally everything and the one that seems to have worked the best is the Aphogee two step protein treatment, it's messy but does seem to strengthen it.

Good luck!

Once you've ruined your hair like that nothing will fix it.

I speak from bitter experience. In a fit of insanity I bleached my lovely healthy hair and it was so fucked that I shaved it all off.

I know it's not what you want to hear but cutting it as short as you can bear is my advice.

hang on a second...put the scissors down!

when did this happen? Sometimes these things calm down a bit in a couple of weeks.

Have it in plaits til it grows out. Spray leave in conditioner on it every day, don't dry it just plait it.

Eat salmon.

Thanks, I know, I know. Dammit. I'll try the apho wotsit. And then have a think about braving the hairdresser. Or keeping it in plaits until next August. Buggrit.

Hats, hats are good. It's lucky it's winter, I can hide in woolies.

Yes a good point, perhaps continue the plaits and conditioner regime for some weeks and see if it settles. Thankyou people, if anything it helps to know I'm not alone in thinking I'd look like sjp with shiny waves and came out looking like worzel gummidge. Sigh.

It will be ok - honestly. Do not shampoo your hair at all. Just condition. You need a good protein conditioner followed by a moisturising one (with little or no protein/keratin). It is vital you do this as too much protein can make your hair brittle. Do this every other day for three weeks and you will see a huge difference (almost back to previous). I did this myself recently and it works.

Echo the above poster. Put the scissors down.

But the Joico Kpak Deep penetrating reconstructor conditioner and the Joico intense hydration conditioner. You have to use the reconstructor first and you MUST follow it up with the moisture conditioner as the reconstructor is protein. Do this a couple of times a week (try to only wash your hair twice a week)

Baby it as much as poss so no heat.

Do this for a month or 2 and it should return to almost near normal. Good luck!

the lee stafford growth treatment mask is good . It will improve your hair condition and help it grow faster. The reviews are excellent .The rest of the range is not necessary.

Almond oil is excellent too. Just on the worst bottom bit.

I think it will come alright too.

Came on to recommend the Joico Reconstructor and intense hydration conditioner too. Saved my fried hair. You can get the reconstructor as a leave in spray too.

Leave the Reconstructor on (to towel dried hair for best effect) for at least 15 mins really if your hair is that damaged, rinse it out with cool water if you can handle or lukewarm (not boiling hot, will just make your hair worse) then quickly wick off some of the water with towel again and then apply the intense hydrator, leave this on for at least 5 mins and rinse, again with cool water. Job done!

After a couple of weeks of this (but you MUSN'T use the reconstructor too often, I don't know how many times a week you wash your hair, but if, for instance it is everyday (hopefully not with bleached hair!) you really only want to be using the reconstructor no more than 3 times a week) you should see a real difference in your hair.
