Going out clothes for pear shaped late 40s woman

I've got some Christmas dinners out coming up - with colleagues and friends and I'd like something a little bit nice to wear.

I suit dresses, but would like sleeves.

A nice top would be good - but again sleeves or a jacket.

I'm an autumn and black doesn't really suit me. So plums, greens, navy are all good.

s.14 with big boobs on top, bit of a tummy and s.14/16 arse.

Tried on some sparkly sequin stuff today and just looked a bit like your Nan down the Legion on her Christmas night out. (Unless you have a very stylish nan of course).

Glittery stuff is tricky to pull off

Pears suit jersey dresses, I think Phase Eight or Great Plains are good at plain dresses, which you can then accessirise and glam up

Less is more I think once you are our age grin

I bought this and I think it looks nice. I am pear shaped, I haven't got big boobs
burgundy long sleeves

Ooh I like that. But I don't think it would work with boobs. Something like that with a v neck would be great.

Pear shaped clothes.

Are you sure you are a pear? I thought pears had small boobs?

Maybe not a pear then. I look better in something that gives me a waist...oh no, I'm probably an apple now the menopause has hit!

The menopause does often change your shape - it did mine.
I'll be alternating between two tops:
Brenda's world famous Next drapy top in cherry red. See other thread - it's kind to the tummy and a snip at £16.

And the Whistles sparkle knit in green. The price is a pisser but annoyingly, it was the best less-is-more-glamour thing I could find. Again it drapes really well. It's more olive green than it looks here.

Both have sleeves and aren't black or encrusted with glitter.

Floisme I like your style. Less is more in these cases I think.

I don't know how much you want to spend but this is actually very much nicer in real life than it looks online:

(although it's not a very autumny green).

I like that, gorgeous colours. But I think I'm better in something more structured now.

Something like this if it wasn't black...http://www.johnlewis.com/adrianna-papell-wrap-front-beaded-dress-black/p2309464

And a bit less shiny.

That is lovely. Have you looked at Phase Eight?
They often have shapes like that.

80sWaistcoat Thu 03-Dec-15 15:36:48

I like phase 8 - but it can tip into frumpy which I don't need any help with! And I had a wonder through it last weekend and nothing really leapt out at me.

wander - not wonder....

Neck too high and maybe we're completely over lace?

Neck too high I think. But great website, thank you.
