Hello!

My husband is receiving an award through work - it's fairly prestigious and calls for smart dress but not black tie - so evening dresses are out.

I am a short and rather dumpy size 14 on a good day and am looking for advice on a fairly cheap dress I can wear with rights to attend this. No ones really going to be looking at me but I'd prefer the pictures to be halfway decent!

Thanks!

So you’d like a day dress?

This would look nice with a black blazer and high heels,

It's a pretty dress but I don't see me in it - it's very light and summery looking.

I went to an awards ceremony for a charity that I'd nominated someone for. It was winter time. I wore a formal black shift dress with cap sleeves, on the knee length, skin coloured tights, black court shoes and a statement necklace. Although the dress wasn't a body con type (definitely not my style) it had a little rouching or a pleat around the middle to help with the illusion of a waist. I had.a black cardigan but took it off for the meal and travelled in a wool coat. I'd had my hair cut and coloured and done my make up.so.felt suitability dress up.but not like I was out for a night out. There were some minor celebrities there, news readers, soap.stars and the like and they wore similar dresses,.although some were shorter or brighter in colour and their heels were slightly higher. I was a.size.14-16 at the time.
And one musical TV presenter wore leather trousers and a shirt.
Good luck finding your outfit and well done to your husband.

Phase Eight or Planet have dresses that might fit the bill (although can be a bit newsreader-isa). Both brands currently reduced at Debenhams and you can usually find voucher codes and/ or go through Quidco for more money off.
