Please help me find a new scent

I'm bored of what I usually to wear. I love very clean, fresh, citrus based perfumes. In the past I've liked and worn Hermes Orangier Verte and Occitane Verveine (or is it Verbena?) but not loved them, as they don't have depth. I quite like Eau de Gucci and Eau de Givenchy but again only quite. Currently use Clarins Eau Ressourcante every day. But ideally I want a slightly stronger, more mature scent, more complex but still very fresh. Is there a fresh citrussy scent that has more complexity?

I can't stand fruity or sweet scents, and like some jasmine or rose based florals so long as they're not sweet. I'm fair haired and skinned, so really strong spicy stuff just doesn't work.

Any ideas?

I think I have quite similar taste to you. Some others I like are Chanel Cristalle Eau Fraiche and Jo Malone Grapefruit. I find they last a bit better than L'Occitane lemon one and have a lot more depth to them.

I like the sound of the Chanel. Thanks for that. I used to wear Cristalle when I was much younger. It was a bit too sweet though, but a fresh version would be perfect!

You might like acqua di parma colonial assoluta, or miller Harris fleurs de sel. I love and wear both. The ADP is softer and more citrus woody (and the only perfume I have ever been complimented on by a stranger), the mh is herbal no citrus and a bit more masculine/unisex. I am not a fan of fruity or sweet fragrances generally either.

Myrtle they both sound gorgeous. Thank you. I'm going to try them out. Where do you get hold of the Miller Harris?

I get loads of compliments for Ressourcante but just want something more grown up, especially for evenings out.

I'm pretty sure john lewis carries both ADP and MH, if not it'll be house of Fraser or one of the big dept stores - I think I got mine in duty free though, so if you've got any trips coming up.... :)

Was in White Company yesterday and was pleasantly surprised by their scent collection. I'm confused as to which was which now but they have a 'Day' 'Blanc' and 'Twenty-one'. Two out of three of those were all none too floral. The first two were less complexed than the third. I was very taken with 'Symons Street' and if you don't get too hung up wearing a room fragrance, it could be worth a wearing. I have no idea how long the' last though.

O de Lancome?

Report
MrsMolesworth · 15/11/2015 20:35

Lumpy - I haven't smelled that in years. A woman I worked with wore it when I was in my teens and I adored it then. TBH I didn't even know it was still around.

Think I've smelled Eau D'Hadrien before and liked it - thanks Plumpy.

O de Lancome is odd. It should be exactly what I'd love but I can't stand it. It smells like bathroom cleaner on me.

White hair - have to go into White co for Christmas candles so will have a look.

M&S stocks the Monotheme book of citrus range, some of those are really lovely
DKNY woman? The original one in the tall bottle
Clean perfumes are usually in TK maxx, cheap but I like their range

Escale a Paraty by Dior is fresh and bright but has some tonka bean in it which provides a bit more complexity. It isn't heavy, but it doesn't last (on me) much longer than any other citrus-sy cologne.

Love l' orange Verte. got some off DH as my wedding present.

I also bought angel Schlesser naranja which is similar but lighter and some loccitane jasmine .

Tried the Jo Malone ones. Very nice but can't justify spending £86-£105 on them.

Yes, that's the thing with Jo Malone. I can get the smell I want but only by layering three to four of her scents. Has to be a single one that works as well.

hollinhurst Have you tried Ealing Green? That just sounds amazing, must order a sample.

I got a bottle of Jo Malone as a gift, I think they are too expensive for the likes of me but its the only perfume I have ever used the entire bottle. Its really nice and not too strong, but like you I can never actually smell it on myself!

I also got Chance by Chanel and have gotten compliments on it but it is much stronger. I also tried a Mark Jacobs one in the shop and it was quite nice, the bottle looked like a ladybird.

I have tried Ealing green! It was actually too fresh for me, I liked it but didn't love it

Report
maybemyrtle · 16/11/2015 14:52

Oooh, something that's "too fresh" sounds even more interesting, thank you! :)

It's so hard to describe! I like citrus fresh or laundry fresh but it's v v green smelling

Report
maybemyrtle · 16/11/2015 15:23

It sounds really interesting. I was actually concerned it might be too heavy on the florals (I'm not v "flowery") but it sounds really intriguing. Sample ordered, hopefully it will get here soon.

Definitely not flowery at all to me

Can I ask where you order samples from? I'm looking for something similar for spring/summer - love Eau Ressourcante too but would like something with more staying power.

maybe you'd like green tea-ish fragrances? Think Elizabeth Arden Green Tea? It's not just citrussy, but very fresh

from Fragrantica:

Green Tea by Elizabeth Arden is a Citrus Aromatic fragrance for women. Green Tea was launched in 1999. The nose behind this fragrance is Francis Kurkdjian. Top notes are rhubarb, mint, orange peel, bergamot and lemon; middle notes are carnation, musk, jasmine, oakmoss, white amber and fennel; base notes are caraway, amber, musk, green tea, jasmine, cloves, oakmoss and celery seeds.

this is a good website for scents
