I need a going out top

I'm going out for a few drinks with my friends for my birthday next weekend and I need a top. I am not very stylish and terrible at dressing to go out. We're going out in my village - ex Yorkshire pit/mill village - so not super cutting edge. If this top could double up for Christmas too, that would be awesome. I am normally a denim/stripey Tee kind of dresser, but feel a bit of glam might be called for, although I am normally the total opposite of footballer's wife glam. I wear very little make up, and my hair is too curly to "do". (I don't straighten it as it is naturally very coarse, dry and brittle).

I'll be 45 this week (shock), size 14, 5'8", curvy, mum tum. Fairish hair, blue eyes. Love silver colour , hate gold.

I was planning to wear jeans that I already have and boots very similar to these, which I also already own.

Being a country bumpkin with a preschooler, mail order would be best!

Budget - I suppose up to around £40.

Watching with interest - I'm after exactly the same!

Another watcher - you've describe me to a t but I'm in a southern village!

BikeRunSki Mon 02-Nov-15 19:15:31

Arrhghh! Enough with the watchers! We need advisors! smile

Slightly over budget, but I bet Google will throw up a voucher code.

I think this is really nice. Also nice in grey.

I don't like the Phase 8 one at all, sorry. It's too frilly/embelished/OTT - I am not really sure of the word I want, it's just too much.

I quite like the Next one, although asymmetric waists/hems make my teeth itch, and it's a bit plain....

BikeRunSki Mon 02-Nov-15 19:45:33

Oh and Phase 8 tops are always too short for me, they don't reach my waist. My midriff is not for bare-ing.

Bit of low key sparkle will cover the glam-but-not-too-glam, and do for Christmas, too:

Does it need to have sleeves? I have this from New Look and it is really nice on, they do it in a pale pink too:

Also really like this and may need to buy it myself - bra could be an issue at the back though.,40&sh=0&pge=0&pgesize=204&sort=2&clr=Navy&totalstyles=171&gridsize=3

Both of these have a little embellishment which is nice for dressing things up grin

mixedpeel Mon 02-Nov-15 20:14:16

Oh rats, didn't notice the top in my link is only available in XS.

(Margaritas: great minds nearly think alike!)

BikeRunSki Mon 02-Nov-15 20:18:00

I love that Oasis one Margarita linked to. grin Bit special, but not OTT girly. And essentially a T shirt!

margaritasbythesea Mon 02-Nov-15 20:19:18

Miss Selfridge
Any of those any good?

BikeRunSki Mon 02-Nov-15 20:21:40

I've never bought anything from Oasis before, how does the sizing come up? margarita's top not available in L. Would a booby 14 fit M?

margaritasbythesea Mon 02-Nov-15 20:22:26

x post

Man! Finally I pick something someone likes!

Dancergirl Mon 02-Nov-15 20:23:57

I like the Kaliko one in purple.

BikeRunSki Mon 02-Nov-15 20:25:56

I do quite like that Miss Selfridge blouse Margarita, but high necks make me look like Hattie Jaques.

Hangingbasket14 Mon 02-Nov-15 20:28:52

I have this (much better in the flesh) and essentially a t shirt. I wear with black skinnies and black pointy flats

Kim82 Mon 02-Nov-15 20:31:44

Is this one any good?

margaritasbythesea Mon 02-Nov-15 20:33:37

eMe too. Would love to be able to do that look. Well worth trying a M I think.

margaritasbythesea Mon 02-Nov-15 20:34:20

in oasis top I mean

Pippin8 Mon 02-Nov-15 20:36:53

Ooh margarita, I love that first oasis top. I'm a 12 with big boobs & I find medium in oasis just fits.

SellFridges Mon 02-Nov-15 20:38:22

I'm a big Oasis shopper and am a booby size 14, but shorter than you. I would say you'd be fine in a M in that style. Although equally you'd be fine in an L if you'd rather be cautious.

Love Oasis.
