I have a red one and also a hot pink one. They certainly brighten up a grey day!

Absolutely, go for something bright if you like it.

I had a lovely orange one I loved - gave it to a charity shop last week as kept making me sad I couldn't fit in it any more!
I will, when I loose some weight, replace it with one I love just as much!

Popsmummy that's the problem, I don't know if I like it. I might look at myself and go 'why is she wearing a RED coat in WINTER!'

I may have to order, try and return.
thanks for the encouragement

Love bright winter coats. So lovely to see some colour in the sea of grey, navy and black. Go for it!

I've got a powder blue one, Betty Barclay (via TK Maxx), love it to bits and get lots of compliments on it.

but I never see any of you bright coat owners in the street - do you actually wear them or are they left hanging in the wardrobe and stroked regularly?

I have a dark pink/ purple wool coat and wear it most days for work. My other winter coat is camel. I try to avoid black and grey. Winter is gloomy enough.

i've got 3 red ones and a mauve one. wear them lots. useful when in a crowd too, as i'm easily spotted amongst all the black dull colours

I have the following winter coats:
Black
Grey
Cream
Bright postbox red
Bottle green
Navy
Brown

I'd like ice blue one for a change and a replacement red one as its long in the tooth and getting a bit threadbare in the cuffs and elbows now.
I wear a coat to match my outfit have collected them over the past decade or so.

Go for it

I have camel, green, plum, brown(s), cream, patterned. I wear them all.

Why would you limit yourself to dark colours?

Mine are in the closet now as I live in Texas. As soon as I love somewhere with a proper winter they'll be worn again

Long coats.
Dark red wool
Teal wool
Pink wool
Sludgy green parka
Bright red parka
Chocolate brown padded

Shorty coats\ jackets
Old lady mixy brown\coloured flecked
Leopard print
Mustard

Rainy day\dog walking coats
Black all weather's brilliant but dull
Beige lighter rain comfortable but dull.

Get some colour in your life. Especially in the winter. A warm colour will give you an instant lift.

I love the sound of these beautiful coats... Can I ask where people go to buy a nice coat? I'm desperately in need of something new and I don't really want another black coat!

I've just bought this MrsN - I usually check out tkmaxx, it's always worth a quick look online. This coat is on sale elsewhere for £200 more.

I've got navy, a pink waterproof one and an orange one. Don't think I've ever worn orange before! My DD wears a gorgeous mustard-yellow Zara one - we are Autumn personified .

I think you have to be cautious with red, especially if you wear a belt, black boots and carry a huge handbag. All a bit Mrs Santa, no?

If you're thinking of coral and red OP make sure that the colours suit your skin tone. Pinky cherry reds are quite different from warmer scarlet and orchre/ corals.

I've regretted a fushia coat I bought ages ago. I wear it occasionally because I like the shape of it, but feel like a raspberry. I think I'll dye it navy.

My advice is to wear a bright scarf over a darker coat, and leave the bright colourful coats to the circus/ beefeaters.

The pale blue and pink coats around at the moment look lovely, but having bought one myself, I'd avoid really garish ones- you'll end up buying a more serviceable one anyway.
