I have my birthday coming up and really fancy trying some new perfumes.
I know there are some enthusiasts on here so wonder if anyone can give me some names to try out!

If I like -
Jo Malone - fig (winter )
Jo Malone - lime basil and mandarin ( summer)
Jo Malone - dark amber and ginger lily ( evening)
Chanel chance ( work / daytime)
Eau dynamisante ( just for the freshness of it).

What else do you think I might like ?
I would say I tend more towards spicy / woody than sweeter scents.
Obviously I have been a Jo Malone fan so am wondering if Jo Loves would be a good hunting ground?

TIA

The new mystic oil perfume is lovely. And Sarah Jessica Parker's "so lovely" gets a huge number of people asking me what it is.
And also Roberto cavalli.

Roberto Cavalli is lovely

I use Narciso Rodreguez 'For Her' - there is a new one by that range that was too ...not what I like....for me. I'm the opposite to you and favor sweet smells so maybe try that? It's a tad expensive so nice to get as a gift.

Roger & Gallet (in M&S and some pharmacies, the Boots-run ones that aren't Boots iyswim) do a fig fragrance, it's nice but it is quite sweet.

If you like fresh fragrances maybe Hermes Eau de Merveilles or Jardin Sur Nil? I also like spicy/woody scents...maybe something like Tom Ford Grey Vetiver? Vetiver notes generally would be a good starting point, have a look on Fragrantica.

Oh and Roger & Gallet Bois d'Orange - woody and citrus.

yazzy Dior Addict just smells like marzipan on me and not very complex but I just looked it up and the notes are more complex - clearly it doesn't work on me!

I've stopped buying pefume from shops and now wear Al Rehab perfume oils. They are divine.

Stella McCartney or Alaia

Love both of these and they're definitely not sweet smelling

Thanks for replies - will give these a sniff over the weekend!
Interesting about Dior addict as marzipan is not something I would wish to smell of.
More ideas welcome.

Your perfume list reads like mine. We obviously have similar taste.

Others I have tried and liked but going in a different direction are

Prada candy (the original)
Paco rabane Olympia
Victor and Rolf flower bomb

I'm a big fan on chance too. I had a sample of both Marc Jacobs Decadence and Estée Lauder modern muse rouge and like them both. I've asked for the Decadence for Christmas in fact.

More ideas Smile thanks Barbie1 you obviously gave excellent taste so I will check those out too.

Also love Stella but my best friend wears it so would feel strange on me

Remember to take your coffee beans to smell inbetween fragrance. Also go back to the blotting paper about 15 mins later when the fragrance has settled so you can smell the middle and base notes and not the heady top notes...be interested to see what you like.

I like some of the perfumes you have listed and am currently loving the Liz Earle perfumes (all except no 15) and also Jo Malone sage and sea salt and Jo loves gardenia. These are more Spring/summer fragrances for me though so am switching to acqua di Parma magnolia. Lovely fresh floral and spicy scent.

Other favourites for winter are bulgari jasmin noir and prada candy

Thanks for the new posts. I am so glad I started this thread instead of just asking for one I already know.

Barbie1 those are good tips I didn't know about the coffee beans.
I will report back but don't yet know how many of these my local department store will have.

I like this idea at jo loves- you can sample the range and then order a full bottle of your choice -

Also like the sound of sage and sea salt .

Along with the coffee bean tip, smell only 3 at a time. Rest, smell the beans and start again.

I just bought my first Jo Malone - Mimosa and cardamom and's lovely, warm and spicy.

Feminite du Bois by Serge Lutens is a beautiful spicy and woody perfume. According to Lucky Scent it is a 'dark, honeyed, animalic wood rubbed with candied fruit, sweet balms and the slow burn of spices, encrusted with the amethyst flash of violets'.

I discovered it in duty free on the way to a holiday in Marrakech and it really reminds me of the scents of Morocco - spices and sweet woods being burned in a stove on the roof of our riad.

There are also other perfumes in the range emphasising different facets of the original - fruits, incense, violet.

Wow theDaerieQueene what an evocative description !
There are so many to investigate now I feel a bit overwhelmed.

Managed to try a few of the mainstream ones yesterday

Liked
Prada candy
Decadence ( smelt really OTT when I first sprayed this but I put some on my wrist and by evening it was lovely. Wouldn't be a daytime option though)

Not keen
Flower bomb
Roberto cavalli

Need to try a few more but probably need to have no DC with me and a bigger store.
