Are black knee-high boots really naff?? Why cannot I not find any that I like?!

I am in the market for black, mid-heeled, not-too-narrow-heeled (cuban or block heel or the likes) knee-high boots to go with skirts and dresses. I need to be able to walk/stand all day in them and they need to be smart enough for work.

I've looked at John Lewis, House of Fraser, Dune and various random websites (including ebay!) and just cannot find anything that is just 'right' or gives me that 'must have' feeling.

Is it me, or them boots??

Total bargain but are they nice? I cannot tell anymore… confused

RickOShay Fri 28-Aug-15 06:57:56

I think they are lovely, and a bargain. Get them grin

I've just culled all my knee high boots after loving them for many years. They didn't feel right for the look I wanted anymore although saying that I still see them on other people and think they can look lovely with the right outfit.

Have you tried Clarks? I usually love their stuff and it's comfortable - apart from my new ankle boots which have ripped my heels to shreds during my first wear angry

I also got my last knee high boots from Aldo, although that was a few years ago so not sure what their stuff is like now

Best pair of knee high boots, as you describe were from Jones the bootmaker. They lasted me for years and years. I still miss them now grin

I was going to sugguest looking at Nine West. The boots you've linked to are lovely.

twojumpingbeans Fri 28-Aug-15 07:31:56

I accept I am in the minority thus far but I think they are definitely whispers mum boots. Sorry.

twojumpingbeans Fri 28-Aug-15 07:32:16

Didn't mean that to be bold, am hopeless at this lark.

Alfabetibisgeti Fri 28-Aug-15 07:37:38

Have you tried M&S?
I know it's no fashionable to shop there on mn but some of the footwear is really nice.
Can't link in my phone but I'm sure I saw a black suede block heel the other day which was lovely.

Alfabetibisgeti Fri 28-Aug-15 07:41:42

Just a screen shot, but these? Not real suede though.

I gave up on long boots last year. They always seem to gather around my ankles like droopy tights and hurt me. I took to wearing black ankle boots with opaques instead and felt much happier.

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight Fri 28-Aug-15 08:48:01

Knee boots with a low heel are a bit 2001

Savagebeauty Fri 28-Aug-15 08:54:05

They are very elegant as long as they fit correctly. Ie tight to the leg with no gaping
I live in them..have black leather and black suede.

Dancergirl Fri 28-Aug-15 09:54:50

I had no idea knee boots were over! What do you wear with skirts then?

PetiteBateau Fri 28-Aug-15 09:56:21

Boots are over? grin How ridiculous. Of course they're not

TPel Fri 28-Aug-15 10:00:13

Pacific they are fab boots. I clicked to buy them but only left in size 8. Grrr

MrsEvadneCake Fri 28-Aug-15 10:04:29

If you feel comfortable in them and like how they look then wear them. I've no time for fashion myself so am not helpful in that respect. I like them and would wear them with a dress or skirt.

Coastingit Fri 28-Aug-15 10:16:06

To me they are a bit passé worn over jeans or leggings, and a bit mumsy. But worn for work with a dress in winter they are smart and practical I think. Not setting the fashion world alight but not offensive either!

PacificDogwood Fri 28-Aug-15 16:45:14

Oh wow, lots of responses, thank you all smile

Yes, the ones I linked to are only available in an 8 and larger - I did not realise when I linked. Doh!

I don't really get the 'mumsy' thing and have no idea how to avoid it tbh. I aim for 'edgy' grin

TobleroneBoo Fri 28-Aug-15 16:47:37

I've had my last 3 pairs from sainsburys, they are almost flat, a slight block heel and have lasted me very well. I'm
Fussy with boots and like them
Quite plain

BestIsWest Fri 28-Aug-15 19:01:55

Now those don't look as though they would sag round the ankle. Size 8 you say? Hmm.

KanyesVest Fri 28-Aug-15 21:00:57

Some on Shoeaholics for example

PacificDogwood Mon 31-Aug-15 21:00:13

KanyesVest, I thank you - just bought those grin

Twinklestein Mon 31-Aug-15 21:41:19

Knee boots are fine. People think everything's over here and then shop in Boden and M&S confused

I think the Nine West ones are dowdy, but there are nice ones around.
