I chucked things I hadn't worn for two years and can't even remember what they were. Also chucked things I'd worn in the last month as they were extra holey and ideas fed up looking like a tramp. Only regret is my current clothes are wearing out faster as I am washing them more often and haven't bought anything new!

Ebayed/sold on local selling pages rather than chucked out - but yes, and no I don't miss any of it. Can't even remember half the items! Topped up wardrobe again with a mixture of stuff bought new, or from ebay and charity shop/selling pages.

You're inspiring me to try. I went through my wardrobe throwing out anything which looked too worn to lend a friend which got rid of all those thin t-shirts with holes at the front. My summer clothes are mainly 10-12 years old as it is only occasionally warm enough to wear them & so I keep them on the off chance it will be hot again.

I haven't worn all mine summer things this year, but I'm not chucking them just in case we get a summer next year.
I do get rid of things I don't like anymore, don't fit and tatty quite regularly though.

I've put a lot of stuff in vac bags to see if I miss it, then revisit it - eg last year I put the summer clothes I wasn't sure about away separately to the things I really liked. This year I forgot to get out the other bag, so away it goes...

I do the vacuum pack thing and often do end up wearing things again, sometimes stuff I've haven't worn in years. I always bin a lot too and rarely regret it. There are some bits that I've hung on to for years in case I ever lose enough weight to wear them again and these are things I should probably cut my losses with Blush

I've ebayed a lot. Mostly things I haven't worn for a while.

Keep what you love not what you haven't worn for an arbitrary period of time.

Get all of your clothes together (including socks, lingerie etc), try them all on, doesn't fit, it goes, looks horrible, it goes, you don't really love it, it goes, scraggy etc, it goes. You will be surprised how much of your stuff can be decluttered this way.

The "after a year" thing doesn't really work in my experience (I do closets for people sometimes) and people can end up throwing away some nice stuff, whilst retaining the things they don't really LOVE just because they've worn them more recently.

I did the kondo 'keep only the things that bring you joy method', I was left with hardly any clothes, a lot of the stuff I had worn in the last year went (and rightly so!), this meant I started to wear some of my older clothes that I love.

For the last years I have been pregnant or post natal so there is 1 lovely coat that I haven't worn for a few years as just have't had the need. It's a classic though so it's staying.

Ive just gutted my clothes. I can't tell you if I miss it yet because it's mostly warmer clothes. I don't have much summer stuff but that's because I never need a lot (British summer time Hmm)

Oh and I can tell you it feels great! Honestly it's fine.

I constantly sell clothes I haven't worn for a while or don't fit anymore and I can honestly say I don't miss anything. I only buy clothes now when I need rather than want something due to my changed spending habits and I don't miss it.

I do it twice a year, big clear out and anything I haven't worn that season goes. Ditto anything washed out or faded. Feels great.

Never. If it fits it stays.

I did and regretted losing several items.
I'd advocate more common sense than I used: smart black gown when you've been to no parties that year, keep. Big woolly jumper after a very mild winter, or beach wear if you went on a walking holiday that year - keep. Work trousers that just don't get worn, bin.

Also items you DO wear but need impetus to replace ... I had some really old trousers until I got pregnant last year. Because I "one in one out" work wear I never bought new ones, when really I should have - I did wear them to work but they were past best.

I do this periodically. I love it, very cathartic.

I've often regretted throwing things out and a year is no time at all. The fashion industry loves it when we throw things away as it means we go out and buy new stuff.

Obviously it's different if clothes don't fit any more or if you really don't like them.

I don't do a strict time line. I do assess everything I haven't worn in that season and then ask "why have I not worn this?" Sometimes sensible reasons occur (mild winter, not hot summer and so on). Sometimes I just don't like it. Re home.
Then I look at the stuff I have worn and ask "has it holes or other damage, can it be repaired?" If no chuck
Then "does it fit, does it flatter?" If no to either chuck or re home
the timeline works to give me a kick up the bum to do it but allows for common sense to prevail

Yes I did it recently. I did a light clear out of clothes a few months ago but hung on to loads of stuff that I'd not worn for ages. Then last week I got annoyed and was super ruthless and got rid of all the stuff I never wear. I've kept a couple of dresses for going out in (I have a toddler so don't get out much but it saves having to try and buy something new if the opportunity arises) but that's it. It's SO much easier to get dressed in the morning now, as I only have a small selection of clothes to decide from.

I have in the past and regretted throwing a couple of things. My rule now is to only clear out the current season clothes and not touch the out of season clothes - this was my downfall last time as I cleared out winter stuff in the summer and then wondered where my favourite boots had gone in December Sad

I think this is hard.
I have a serious wardrobe cull at least every 2 years but there are some things that I won't part with. Certain good quality Jigsaw / White Company jumpers I love and are lurking in the drawer because whatever I bought them to go with doesn't exist any more.
I regret throwing away 2 pairs of summer wedge sandals bought in 1976 which would be bang in fashion again now.
I rarely throw anything out- the best goes on Ebay and I easily make £100 from a few bits and pieces, and the tatty stuff goes to charity.

i now hang onto things I love even if unworn for a year or two.
I don't hang onto things like T shirts that might have a small stain or which I think 'will be ok for the garden' because I end up with loads and haven't got the space.

I don't have many clothes anyway- mainly smart casual.

Really interesting, thanks. I am going to rethink the strict time limit but some stuff has got to go due to lack of space.

but I have been hoping to fit back into stuff.....3 dc's later and that is not gonna happen ????

I had stuff I've been going to 'slim in to' for years and just sold it all on eBay! It feels good to have got rid of it.

Fair enought if you've no space but I really don't get this thing for half empty wardrobes. I have so much fun going through mine every so often and rediscovering clothes all over again. I've got at least 3 denim skirts somewhere that will be perfect for this autumn.
