I have tried it on and it looks good but think it might be too young.

Any thoughts? It's not my usual style so not feeling too sure.

Thanks.

Good heavens no! It is fine for soeone who is 50! (As long as you have the legs!). It is not something an 18 year old would wear is it?

I'm not sure age has anything to do with it.

I would not wear this at 50, but did not wear anything like that at 20 either.

I know someone who is 65 who wears dresses like this. If you feel happy in it, why not?

I'm clueless really. Wouldn't an 18 year old wear it? It's not as short in real life so legs look ok.

I have to admit I was expecting something a bit crazier than that! You're overthinking it, you've tried it, it looks good, go for it.

If you have the figure for it then definitely go for it.

I think the key is how you style it, so I'd go for streamlined simplicity with your accessories a bit like they have with the model.

I think it's the the zip. Is it a bit much? This was the alternative which looks ok and is very sensible.

Ok thanks I am very conservative when it comes to clothes so this is crazy for me!

Bamboo- it is a bit too grown up for an 18 year old and a bit pricey! That is why it is ok for you at 41. It is great with a statement necklace and clutch bag. If you are worried about the zip front - don't be. It is just decoration and if it looks good, go for it!

Thanks so much. Now have to find necklace! Also will wear this with black heels. Should I have black sheer or skin tights?

I'm not sure on the tights - I suspect that black sheer are a bit passe, but someone with more up to date experience will advise.

Re the necklace, I'd be a bit careful on this. Have a look at the pics - the model has no necklace or earrings. Whilst I think you should have some on, you'll already be wearing a statement dress, so I'm not sure you need a statement necklace as well, i'd be keeping it simple.

For goodness sake don't get the Jigsaw one, it's beyond frumpy!

Lovely and not too young. I'm a bit confused by the fabric though; it says 'top silk' and 'bottom polyester and something else' but the whole dress looks the same in the pic.

Tights: nude, definitely (or bare legs).

It a great dress, definitely skin tights or bare legs. I did read on here that on one wears black sheer tights anymore (just as well IMO).

No it's lovely, get it!

Thanks all. It's actually a very flattering dress. The ruched bit is silk at the back and top so that covers a bit of back fat which is my problem area. The rest is a sort of lycra which holds you in. It's v good if you have ample bust as there's stretch and thick shoulder area so can wear good bra. I agree re necklace as actually don't need it on a retry.

Will get skin tights.

Thanks all. Am sending jigsaw one back. Feeling quite chuffed now.

I'm almost 39 and would wear the Ted Baker - avoiding the ageing Jigsaw one in a flash! No brainer.
I usually always go bare legs unless it's freezing. I'd wear my amazing red heels with the TB one as well.

Report
Chewbecca · 14/08/2015 14:37

Yes, bare legs & coloured shoes with the TB dress.

if you've got the figure then age is irrelevant. Add a smile, the right underwear and some non-fugly shoes (all wrong on the model) and you are good to go.

no rules about tights, either - I think black sheer look very good.

however I'd shop around; the zip is too short and the dress is badly made, it is pulling on the right side of the picture. £10 primark job, not what they are charging.

Personally I think it would be absolutely perfect w/o the zip, but that's just my opinion. 41 is certainly not too old to wear such a dress.

I'm 48 and I'd wear the Ted Baker one.....but definitely not the Jigsaw!

Agree that a statement necklace would be overkill though.....keep jewellery/accessories simple imho.

Glad you're keeping it. No way is 41 too old for it! Nude tights not black.

Jigsaw one is very frumpy, weird length and too much lace.

Coloured shoes would be great I think, though I suppose it depends where you are going.
