Here are my criteria. Anyone fancy finding me a dress?

I'm going out with DP next week and want a dress.

I usually end up panic buying something that is 1. not me at all of 2. a bit too young and usually garish blush .

I'm 35.
Size 10 in loose fitting things, 12 in fitted.
Good boobs (not too huge)
Good legs
Apple waisted
Look best in black or cool tones (have silver/dark grey hair).
Love vintage inspired. Hate Lady V London/Lindybop
Love unusual fabrics and prints (lace, velvet, leopard print etc).
Quirky and retro. My style is the opposite of the classic and chic that you see on here.

For context this is my favourite going out dress but it's a bit OTT for this occasion.

Budget up to £70 for the right thing bit would prefer cheaper.

Anyone?

Bump!

Where are Tethers and FauxFox when you need them grin.

What about Vivien of Holloway if you like vintage stuff?

Thanks Cheers but I can't stand any of that kind of stuff.

CheersMedea Thu 06-Aug-15 14:09:56

Not really sure how something like this:

is really any different from the dress you posted above. Same kind of stuff to me.

What is it you like then if you say you like vintage but "can't stand any of that kind of stuff" (which is what most people would call vintage)!?!?

I like vintage...but hate the sticky out Lindybop dresses and flicky eyeliner.

Out of your budget, unfortunately, but I love this as an example of vintage inspired that's not all petticoats and cupcakes.

I'm place marking as I too love vintage styling but am not a fan of the Vivian holloway, lindybop etc. hoping somebody comes up with a link for somewhere suitable!

Love that dress the pp posted!

MoreCrackThanHarlem Thu 06-Aug-15 14:39:39

Boden shirt dress in the spotty print but may be too twee
Boden again but sixties style shift
Orla Kiely Sale but most options are over budget
Linea - some quirky animal print options within budget if you scroll down

None of this is my style at all. I think it's all vile - but there are plenty of dresses on Vivien of Holloway that are not Lindypop style - fitted pencil skirts, non-flarey tea dress and sarong skirt dresses.

CherryBonBon Thu 06-Aug-15 15:34:33

Right. I could have been way clearer in my OP. Sorry.

I like my Collectif dress because it's sleek and simple. It's just a LBD. As I said in my OP it's too dressy for this event..

I think that 99% of what Vivien of Holloway/Lady V/Lindybop do is tacky fancy dress 50's pastiche that looks good on about 1% of those who wear it.

The vintage I love is true vintage. More 60's than 50's but with a few understated 50's day dresses.

For this night out I want something vintage inspired but more casual than my Collectif dress.

Clear as mud eh grin .

Just bought this which I think is lovely. If you look at the mint one you can see the lovely detail.

Love that gatsby dress!!

Your new dress is pretty op.

CherryBonBon Thu 06-Aug-15 16:15:21

Thanks Lj smile .

The Gatsby one is gorgeous but the colour would completely wash me out.

I like this. None of the things you want as v. expensive and long and more dressy but so pretty.

GooodMythicalMorning Thu 06-Aug-15 16:28:57

I really like your new dress. wonders if I can get away with buying even more clothes

CherryBonBon Thu 06-Aug-15 16:32:36

Gooood it's such a bargain it'd be rude not to grin .

GooodMythicalMorning Thu 06-Aug-15 16:43:32

I was thinking that grin

CheersMedea Thu 06-Aug-15 16:46:34

Cute but £395 is crazy money!!

Sorry - missed the budget. Oops. I spend that on a pair of shoes so thought it was quite good. Oh dear. blush and double blush.

CherryBonBon Thu 06-Aug-15 16:49:30

Nice humblebragging Cheers.

GooodMythicalMorning Thu 06-Aug-15 17:03:08

I dont understand why the mint one is nearly double the price when its not nearly as nice as the black.

Lj8893 Thu 06-Aug-15 17:36:20

£395 is only slightly off my months rent, not a chance I shall ever spend that amount of money on an item of clothing or shoes......my wedding dress wasn't even that much money shockshockshockshock
