Molton Brown - Worth the money?

Bluecheese22 · 31/07/2015 09:22

Stayed at hotel recently that had coco and sandalwood toiletries in the bathroom and absolutely loved it. Usually use avene son in comparison Molton Brown seems expensive and the reviews on the website aren't amazing. Any recommendations?

The vitamin lip saver is my favourite for peeling winter lips. It is definitely worth it.

John Lewis often do special offers on the 8 or 10 packs of 50ml shower gels which are nice for travel or trialling.

I like the (formerly known as) Vit ACE but Bayliss and Harding smells similar but not as lux.

The Seamoss bath granuals are gorgeous for a home spa

I have a bottle shower gel that has lasted since Xmas (when used with a shower puff) I still have a third left. So it is long lasting

It's horses for courses. Most shower gels are a waste of money- on your body then down the plug hole- but if you like the smell and the texture, and can afford it- why not?

I use MB and a 300ml bottle does last for around 3 months, using it daily.
I wouldn't recommend the small bottles in packs unless you want to try some samples because in terms of value per mls, they are more expensive. I think the packs are £19 for a total of 300mls ( 6 x 50mls) which is more than 1 300ml bottle.

I'd recommend signing up to the MB website. They do lots of offers inc free P&P and gift wrapping, plus you always get a free 30ml bottle of something with any order.

Thanks all! I like how long they seem to last. The moisturiser soaked in really well without being sticky which is what loved. I'll def look into the seamoss granules they sound lovely, as does the lip saver. Has anyone tried the hand cream?

Its ok...

I went through a phase of loving them and buying them as gifts. then I found that some of the scents gave me a headache!

It is fairly long lasting though.

I got a pack of 20 sample bottles for not much money from their outlet at Gunwharf Quays, not sure if yoy have any near you but got 2 kinds of shampoo, 2 kinds of body lotion, a conditioner and then 5 types of shower gel all x 2 - lovely to try different smells out.

I currently have the MB begamot shower gel and the Aldi soap dupe - Aldi smells like the MB UNTIL you smell the MB IYGWIM but is definitely nice for washing hands and so much cheaper.

Smell of MB does last longer though, but I don't find their conditioner or body lotion moisturising enough at all

I used to love the Heavenly Gingerlily but then they changed the name to just Gingerlily I think and it didn't seem quite the same, that could all be in my head of course (and my nose has changed a lot in recent years and lots of things I used to love I hate now) but it didn't smell as special anymore.

A lot of the reviews have said that the smells have changed with name change so might not just be you Cecyhall! I find a lot of things give me headaches and this doesn't seem to which is why I'm quite keen, plus I don't have very dry skin which is why it might work for me. Just looked into an outlet but there isn't one close, such a shame!

I got a miniatures set(body washes) in the JL sale and apart from the black peppercorn body wash(loved the smell) I would say overall they aren't worth it. I prefer the body shop

I used to use MB shower gels and hand creams but I've since discovered Scottish fine hand wash and creams - their range of scents are really nice, the hand creams are more nourishing and the hand wash scent lasts longer

I sometimes buy Pecksniffs shower gel from TKMaxx, it's cheap and comes in some really gorgeous scents. The quantities are generous too. I have had Molton Brown stuff in the past and, though quite nice, I wasn't running back for more.

I think they're overpriced. They also contain all the same cheap ingredients as many cheaper brands. Prefer unscented myself, and if I do want scented I like sanctuary stuff (cheapish on offer at boots) or l'occitane if I have birthday money or vouchers.

Dp loved molten brown hand soap but then discovered aldi do a similar type for a lot, lot cheaper.

bonzo I agree. The Lavender Foam Bath by L'Occitane is one of my faves and the sods did a lovely honey shower gel which they of course discontinued...

burts bees Citrus and ginger body wash - I can't think why I tried this but did and the scent is amazing...

also philosophy bath/shower gels when boots used to do them super cheap at Xmas sales... lush fragrances and lasted forever as thick creams.

i tend to do the 3 for 2 on BB at Boots though

Don't laugh but the method hand wash has a lingering scent which is full and not synthetic! £3 ish

I love the sound of citrus and ginger from Burt's bees, definitely give that a try. Been using a sample of the m.b cocoa and sandalwood and my skin feels and smells amazing... Not helping my decision. I have a dendancy to get hooked on something, buy it & lose interest so tend to not spend a lot of money on things like this

I'm obsessed with the MB pink pepperpod stuff. SO good and totally worth it.

It has changed beyond recognition.
I started a thread about it a couple of years ago. If you subscribe to their site, they let you know when there is 40% off everything and then I stock up.but their bottles now warp really easily and don't get me started on the reinvented candles.
Yuang Zhi (sp?) is now called Ylang Ylang as apparently we couldn't cope with the exotic names they'd always been called by since time in memorial.
It was a great British Brand bought out by others.

Bluecheese22 · 02/08/2015 18:52

I didn't realise it had been bought out, that does explain a lot if the reviews about the smell changing with the names! Do you know how often they do 40% off?

At least twice a year- usually June and November. They will email you if you subscribe. I would not pay full price for it nowadays.

I think they are mediocre formulas in very nice bottles.

Never ever got any emails for 40% off Shock

Have had emails for the 'sale'- when you get 500msl for roughly same price as 300mls and also cheaper items that have a limited life- eg Xmas smells and packaging.

Who took them over?
