So, is there a facial sunblock that doesn't turn you into a ghost

I've just posted on another thread about my annoyance at discovering that Clinique City Block Spf 40 is only for 'incidental sun' ie walking from car to house.

Does anyone have the holy grail - a SPF 30 or so that doesn't make you look deathly pale (once my bronzer has slid off)?

Try Ultrasun, sold in john Lewis, m&s, Amazon but I get it from qvc.

I don't understand about the Clinique sunscreen. Do you mean the Super City Block spf 40? The website says it has broad spectrum UVA/UVB protection. Is that not enough?

Apparently it isn't for a sunny day like today. The fact that it doesn't have the star rating on the package is a bit suspicious. I reckon it is like a foundation with Spf - you wouldn't rely on that on a day like today.

Still. I feel a bit duped.

I like an Aussie one called 'SunSense Daily Face SPF50+ Invisible Tint Finish Sunscreen' - I get it from Amazon but I think you can get it from other places.

I use the piz buin allergy facial sunscreen in factor 30 which doesn't make me ghostly. It's slightly greasy, but I just let it soak in before foundation and use a little bit of powder to set it all.
I haven't burnt with it at all in the sun last week on the south coast (pale northerner on holiday) Grin

I'll be emailing Clinique to try and get a definitive answer-thanks for the information jjcrackers. I've been on a few reputable sites that recommend titanium dioxide and zinc oxide as physical blockers of UVA/UVB rays ( www.skincancer.org/prevention/uva-and-uvb/understanding-uva-and-uvb )and City block contains both, but you're right about the missing circle on the packaging. I've used it in Australia and never burnt (I am pale and never ever tan-just burn and peel) so it must be doing something right! I'll report back anything I hear from them.

I have the Sunsense daily 50+ as well, and its brilliant. I also like the La Roche Posay Antihelios in tinted as more of a bb cream

Peter Thomas Roth factor 50 face suncream is excellent. It doesn't give any whiteness and I use it in place of my usual moisturizer

Sorry it's SPF 30

Asian sunscreens, Biore Watery Essence and Missha peachy and pink bottle, and America Neutrogena Clear Face spf 30.

FrugalFashionista · 18/07/2015 17:43

Sorry, meant American. The Asian ones are spf 40-50. It is difficult to make a zinc /titanium based sunscreen that does not leave a white cast, and micro /nano particles can be problematic too.

La Roche Posay make fantastic facial sun creams. I've just come back from three weeks in the sun. I used their tinted spf50 everyday and I'm still as white as a sheetGrin

Ultra sun is fab. No more stinging eyes if you sweat/ get water on your face.

The Boots No 7 one is also good and not white on.

I got sunburned face walking to the shops today, wearing the Biore watery essence one. Not impressed. I used loads and applied just before going out, no makeup on top.

I also use ultra sun, instantly absorbed and doesn't leave that greasy feeling a lot of suncreams do. I have very fair sun sensitive skin and this seems to protect me all day.

Just realised ultrasun is one word.

Get yourself to the Korean skincare thread and read about Biore although if you want to get technical about it, it's actually Japanese.

Fab stuff, a cult product with amazing formulation that goes brilliantly under make-up.
