Any ideas on what to wear under a dress to stop back sweat from showing through?

I have a beautiful dark purple dress that I bought to wear to a wedding a few weeks ago. I have another wedding coming up and thought due to being on a diet that I would be a smaller size for this next wedding, and would buy a new dress that would be more appropriate for hot weather. I've actually gained weight oops and it looks like I will probably be able to wear the same dress.
The problem I have is that I get a bit sweaty in hot weather
From previous experience I know that it will show through the dress because of the colour/fabric. Please tell me, is there a light weight absorbent body/vest that I can wear underneath it? I was thinking maybe a sports type vest would help?

The only solution I've found is to wear dark or lighter, patterned clothing when it's hot. I think by putting on more layers, you'll only get hotter and sweat more, meaning it might show through more. I really do understand, suffering from this myself, though I know it doesn't help as you want to wear the dress you already have!

You should get a deodorant in the chemist called 'driclor' - it actually stops you from sweating!

it stings from the first maybe, three uses and you put it on every night for a week.

You can then apply once a week and you literally don't sweat. its changed my life :)

What fabric is the dress? I find dresses with high polyester or synthetic content actually mean I sweat more. The higher the cotton content the less I sweat.

I agree with patterned or busy prints. My back is also very sweaty (have only tried driclor on underarms and it's really amazing) so for summer weddings etc I have a jacket which I basically wear and keep on the whole time as it hides a lot.

I was hoping M&S or someone would have come up with a miracle absorbant body or something. I guess I need to go shopping for something more suitable. Covering my back with deodorant isn't going to be too practical, and it's polyester so it will be a problem.

I have found bamboo vests or t shirts to be pretty good for this - feels just as light as cotton but seems more absorbent. BAM do different weights in their t shirts.

The colour is a bit darker than it looks in the picture. The lace isn't going to be enough of a pattern for it not to show is it?

That looks ok - and not too tight so there's some breathability. And it's lined so you'll have that as a helping hand too!

Don't know how much it helps but I wear a cotton strappy vest under dresses all summer. It doesn't make me any warmer really - and if it's really hot it's definitely cooler as wet (sweaty) cotton has a cooling effect.

I like feeling relaxed knowing my top clothes aren't getting wet. The vest tops are reasonably snug against my skin so it's also nice not having that feeling of sweat running down your skin under your clothes as it catches it immediately. And as I said its cooling and fresh feeling.

I'm all for sports tops but for more active wear. The wicking is great when you're really really drenched and don't want to be clammy and cold after. But for normal wear I'd avoid synthetics and just go cotton.

Can you dry talc powder? It can soak up some of the sweat. I use it all over in this kind of weather and it's a godsend.

Why don't you wear it round the house doing a few star jumps or something as a trial run? Then you'll know whether to worry or not.

If you ever need something similar with sleeves I can recommend a particular H&M t-shirt: www.hm.com/gb/product/26321?article=26321-R#article=26321-R - thin cotton so not hot/bulky like a normal t-shirt, very short sleeves and deep v-neck, and ideal for wearing unobtrusively under other clothing. They bring them out in different colours each year.
